Awareness

Has anyone figured out if it actually does anything this year?

I'll take that as a no.

Re: Awareness

If you're controlling the guy it has no effect. If the CPU is then it has a large effect.

Re: Awareness

I zerod it out and now players seem to not have a direct path like before. I had a scramble where Tyros made a player miss and ran up the middle for a 20 yd gain. I'll show a video

Issue is a crazy ammount of fall starts

Re: Awareness

According to the Madden NFL gameplay designer Clint Oldenburg, AWR affects a number of things on defense:
  • reacting to cut blocks
  • reacting to play-action and special teams fake-outs
  • defensive "get-off" time (presumably for pass rushers)
  • penalty chance
  • "pass rush transition" (I'm not sure what this means)
  • AI swat vs interception
  • breakout time for read/blitz vs scrambling quarterback
  • strip ball chances
  • defending option plays
  • "catch tackles"
  • spatial awareness of open-field blockers
  • and more things

And that's just on defense.

Re: Awareness

This is what EA provided in a previous article on their site:

"Awareness (AWR) – Reacting to the other players on the field, both teammates and opponents."

Re: Awareness

I believe khaliib mentioned on here before that awareness basically has to do with how "true" they play to their ratings. So basically, two RB's could could have the same exact attributes, yet if one had 90 awareness and the other 60, the 90 RB would play closer to his attributes and would likely break more tackles, make more defenders miss, etc. Whilst with lower awareness they don't necessarily play up to that potential. Whether that's accurate or not is another discussion, but that was one perspective which is an interesting one.

Re: Awareness

I did notice that my extremely low AWR QB leads the leage in sack/fumbles, and most of the other leaders also have low AWR, so not sure if that's coincidence or not.
