Bump..

Some mental traits could be extended to the coaching staff which would be critical to position coaches when/if they ever add them.

Sending the link to Duece...

I wouldn't even fully underline custom draft classes. Lot's of gaps in it. Announcers can't say edited player names, no face editor, lack of face options, equipment options lacking...

A lot of potential with this still, especially assistant with coaches in the mix.

Now you have the foundations of an ecosystem similar to HC 09 where your staff, including position coaches reacted to your personnel decisions.

Each player, along with their personality traits, could have something like a chemistry/trust matrix showing how they are viewed:

For example (forgive me for I lack Deuce's graphical skills to show how this would look in-game)...

Nick Bolton
Position: LB
Season: 2nd
=======
LB Coach - 88% Trust Level (+ 1% from last week/+10% from last season)
Defensive coordinator - 89% (+2%/+12%)
Personnel Director - 79% (+2%/+6%)
Owner - 82% (+4%/+8%)
Fanbase - 90% (+2/+8%)
Teammates - 90% (+2/+10)
=======
Personality Traits:
Fan Favorite
Alpha Dog

From this example you've got a 2nd year player and a guy pretty much loved by everybody except maybe the Personnel Director who didn't like the draft pick originally because he favored another prospect at that draft slot.....same goes for the owner.

However they do seem to be warming up to the kid the more he plays. As the seasons go by you will see these dynamically shift based on the player's performance and any decisions you make involving that player.

And as a coach, you will have the same profile...to see where you stand with the players, your staff, the fanbase and the front office. Everything is intertwined. Everybody has their own sort of gravitational pull.

This system evolves as your franchise progresses leading to some organic storylines emerging.

For example, and using the above quoted example:

Your defensive coordinator gets poached for a head coach gig in the same conference. Now he wants to assemble a staff. Due to his trust level with the LB Coach, he hires him as his DC.

So you lose your DC and linebackers Coach which likely means bringing in an entirely new defensive coaching staff unless you promote one of the remaining assistants. And that's assuming none of then gets snagged for coordinator gigs with other teams.

Either way, the trust matrix on the defensive side of the ball will be disrupted thus setting back player development and performance on the field.

Then, a few years down the line, your star linebacker Nick Bolton is a free agent. He's older now and has had some injuries but is still considered one of the best linebackers in the league. However, his asking price doesn't fit your CAP situation. Not to mention, Bolton never really developed strong trust with the new DC and position coach.

Guess who gives him the offer he wants? Your former DC due to the trust they developed and Bolton's familiarity with that defensive scheme. It'll probably be the last big money, multi-year contract Bolton gets but it's a great fit for all parties involved.

That's an organic storyline that evolved outside of the scenario engine because of the trust matrix. And it's only one example. The replayablity this adds is rather insane because the trust matrix expands to the league around you over time.

Re: What's truly missing from CFM and every other Franchise Mode

One of my biggest Madden pet peeves is that average to below average starters are very overrated relative to backups. Look at a typical 8-8 NFL team in real life and you'll see that they maybe have 6 guys who are impact players and another 6 guys who are solid starters. The rest of the roster is made up of a few unproven draft picks and a bunch of fringe guys who are absolutely grinding to stay on the field and keep their careers alive. In the NFL, dealing with lower end starters and role players is all about discerning slight talent advantages and putting guys with particular skillsets in the right position to succeed. IRL, the type of guys who receive an 80-83ish rating in Madden do not have as significant of a skill advantage over higher end backups (who are often rated in the 60s) as Madden would lead you to believe.
