    FMV vs PMV

My question is what do they do? And do you have to have Spin/swim/bull traits for them to matter? I was under the impression that FMV controlled swim and spin while PMV was for the bull rush. However, the description on the XP screen makes it sound like FMV controlls every pass rush move, while PMV is just for double teams. So which one translates to more pressure on the QB, and should I try to max them both out? Also, does BSH have any correlation with the aforementioned PMV and FMV?

I've always been curious of this too. They kind of overlap. But from what I've seen and guess obviously, block shedding has to do more with have a hand free on the outside to tackle a ball carrier that runs near by. More or less ability to disengage blocks where the pass rush moves are ability to get past.

      Re: FMV vs PMV

This is probably one of my #1 questions about ratings at this point, especially after learning about RBK/PRK/IBL from Clint recently...

From the rating explanation blog posted by EA a couple years ago:

Power Move (PWM) – Using strength to defeat the offensive line. Compared with Pass Block.
Finesse Move (FNM) – Using swim and spin moves to defeat the offensive line. Determines time required to perform a successful move.
Block Shedding (BKS) – Ability to get off a block, allowing pursuit of the ball carrier or success versus run block double teams.

So it looks like block shed is for countering the run, which I think most of us knew or suspected, and power and finesse moves are both used in the pass rush game. The next question for me is in what situations, or how often, is one or both of those ratings important? Do pass rushers use power moves against weaker/smaller defenders, and finesse moves against the bigger guys? Do they use their best moves? Do the traits impact any of this? Is there any randomness involved in which attributes are used?

After a few years of having my pass rushers specialize in one or the other, I've been experimenting with trying to get my guys to have a high rating in both attributes, which I've been able to do because my D-Line is really good. My DTs have had 90 and 96 PMV for a while, but relatively low Finesse moves until late last season. I think increasing the finesse moves of my DTs (I'd have to check, but it's maybe 70 -> 83 for both of them) has been helping them get more sacks. But still way too early to say it matters one way or another that they have respectable stats in both moves.
      Cow. Boys.

Per Clint, they're basically "Timers" for attempted type.

        - the higher the rating = the faster the attempt can be made.
i.e. Failed Swim move performed, rating decides how fast next swim move can be performed (AI players impacted greatly)

From there, Win-Chance of PBK/RBK vs Blk Shed kicks in to decide triggering Win animation(s)

Are you saying block shedding is main determinINT of whether a move once triggered results in a sack?

This just deals with blocker vs any def player win-chance.

**Does not guarantee a sack just because def player performs move and wins the win-chance.
            - There's still a chance of reblock or cut-block

I miss asked my question. Don't mean get the sack because most of the time I this year's game the ball will miraculously be thrown as soon as you beat the block. What I mean is does block shedding play a bigger role in pass rushing than their finesse /power moves?

                Re: FMV vs PMV

I always thought that PMV determined the success rate of bull rushes and rip moves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Sg4vDSCnM), and FMV controlled the success rates of spins and swims, but could be wrong for sure.

Also not sure how the player traits/packages factor into the success rates either

Equal, they work hand in hand.

Can't say this particular rating is more important over the other because there's a lot going on under the hood for all to mesh to get what we see during gameplay.

Ok, thanks. I always thought block shedding played no role in pass rushing so this is some great information to have.

In addition to what's already been presented (and someone back me up / correct me on this): I think I remember reading previously that using Power Move was more "high-risk / high-reward" than Finesse Move, in that you could get near-instant block sheds with PMV successes, but the failures for failed PMV attempts are more catastrophic, i.e. pancake blocks.
