I was going to make a comment to that effect at the end of my post, but I didn't want to be seen as trolling EA .

Both are good. As I've gotten older and have played more and more madden....I now use a mix. I make my own playbook, which is built around 4-3/3-4/Nickel/Quarter.

Which formation I use is based on team matchup, opponents personnel choices/sets, down + distance, and how the game is going.

Roster depth and flexibility are key.
