Watching the championship on twitch and I have to say that the WR swerve move (along with zigzag running in the open field) is complete cheesy garbage. I hope that the developers remove it from the game as these are clear exploits.

I agree with the people who say that having these kinds of exploits happen on the big stage for all to see is great, because the embarrassment that they cause everyone in the organization makes it pretty much a stone cold lock that a lot of them will be gone for M18. That kind of stuff hurts the development of the game as a legit esport. So it ultimately helps everyone from a gameplay improvement perspective.

Rex can say, "I need X amount of resources to fix this nonsense" and he'll get it for that stuff.

I realize that most of the viewers are of the casual variety so they're not going to know or pick up on these things but it bugs me when the casters talk about how diverse a player's scheme is when both players are only calling a same handful of plays the entire game. One of them was also mentioning how Donovan McNabb was a good pick because of how much quicker he's able to get the ball out and AFIK I don't think that's a thing.

It's something to watch but IMO it'd be a lot more entertaining and would keep me watching if it more closely resembled real football.

I don't think it's that simple. Zig zag running has been a problem since Madden 11.

and zigzag running wont ever stop until we finally get real foot planting( promised in madden 25 , still waiting to see) and real momentum/physics. To me it is still one of the largest issues for me with madden is the lack of actual physics in this game that play out right. For one they claimed the ball now has real physics which it clearly does not. I still see ball go thru people and people behind them catch balls, some of those tipped passes are just down right outrageous . Just last night my wr tipped on at about the 30 yard line, that proceeded to go sky high off the screen, and literally landed in the back of the endzone. The ball went so high , i had time to click on a different wr at the 30 , run him all the was to endzone and almost catch it.

Momentum should have to do with weight + speed. But it clearly does not in so many cases. This game really really needs real physics in the game. Yeah yeah, i know master builders, its "not that easy" , but its something they need to work on tirelessly.The running/skating on ice is just horrible.

All the developers need to do is watch one of those game and realize what's wrong with the game, they can locate all the flaws in gameplay since those player exploit them

Yeah, all that stuff is unfortunate, and its good to even see the competitive community call out the WR swerve. But as far as the zig-zag running isn't a big deal to the competitive community. It was a bigger black eye for EA when that QB/PA glitch caused someone to lose in the Madden Classic or whatever tourney that was. With the three different game modes coming stuff like that probably isn't going anywhere, the swerve might be tuned to be less effective.

This is why I don't think we'll see anything in regards to proper footplanting or momentum being respected any time soon. Not only is it probably a time consuming implementation but a lot of what is considered 'stick skillz' is just abuse of the lack of realistic player movement. If it was implemented a lot of that freedom would be taken away from a user player and that's a huge no-no for the competitive side and they're definitely going to win out IMO.

Who did the swerve moves, I mean any specific player, like Deion Sanders?

Some things in the game almost really cannot be removed, disregarding code issues, etc., until other things in the game are also addressed like suction blocking and tackles; that burst that some players seem to get as they intercept a pass or make a tackle from behind, etc. IMO..

But welcome to the competitive world of madden. I don't frown on it although it's not my thing. Those guys are playing what 3 min qtrs at the most maybe 2 min qtrs. So they can't be thinking about 40 plays and what they need to do on all 40 of those plays. They have to be quick to the point and nail it because before they know it the game is over. That's why when you read what Rex said about competitive mode being about "reads" that's exactly what competitive madden is. It's not about calling 60 different plays a game in which you might not execute all of those plays to precision. It's about making your reads and being exact on a few plays because that's really all you have time for.

Yeah, I mean I get it and understand that a shorter game is going to induce that type of play style plus when you're playing for 100k it's hard to blame them. Gotta do what you gotta do. I just watch it and see things like players having to keep backs and TE's in just to have a chance at blocking an unabated corner with two lineman rushing or a player who's entire offense is running streaks and using the swerve and that's what makes it's not entertaining because it doesn't even look like football. And that mostly just stems from the complete clash in mindset when it comes to playing the game and it's always been like that whether it be this or the old Madden Challenges with the relentless FB Dive's. I enjoy Madden and I enjoy competitive eSports but Competitive Madden isn't my thing either and it's not, nor ever will be, aimed to appeal to me so it makes perfect sense.

Hopefully with the addition of Frostbite they'll actually add weight to players, so you won't be able to see these full speed swerve/cuts without players losing any momentum. That's the big hope, you can run like an idiot, but it will cost you.

What was more funny was Rex (I think that is who it was) calling the play by play and hyping it up. I'm like freaking really man??? Are you seriously hyping a glitch up? HAHA! Com'n man. Just like lining a LB over that center gap to fake out the lineman because they are too stupid to adjust that the LB is never rushing in..........

LB lining up or fake shooting the A gap to mess with the line call isn't unrealistic...that happens every week from nearly every team in football often with the intent to hold interior linemen or back. It's represented pretty well actually.

EDIT: What's not represented is that the player is out of position but able to recover - thanks to no concept of momentum, foot planting, weight distribution...that someone can shuffle as fast as a receiver runs at full speed, etc. which all ties back to the swerve.

Wow, finally googled this to see what it is. Lol. I'm almost exclusively a CFM vs CPU only player, so these h2h cheeses don't really affect me. But, yeah, this is an interesting one. Madden needs to reprogram the DBs to pay more attention to the ball than the man. That's what's happening. The DB sort of goes with the WR as he swerves, and then u get a little sliding/warping from the WR and the DB bites the dust. I saw a vid from someone on how to defend it, though. If u control the DB, u can get an INT. In essence, I'd say when the WR swerves IN, the DB should swerve OUT. But, obviously, here, u MUST take control of the DB. So, it's still cheese, and madden needs to update the DB to play ball better, so we'll see if it's better in 18, I guess. Lol. And, u know, I don't mind the zig zagging. The foot planting may not be great, but I'll tell u what upsets me more is when I'm trying to make an easy move with my RB and he DOES instead completely plant his foot when there was no need. Instead, of making a smooth transition and a minor change of direction (like a 10 degree change running north already), I tend to get the hard plant which takes 1-2 secs to recover from and BANG! I'm tackled. Lol. And, u see zig zagging in real life. The better players in NFL know how to use their momentum and use the D momentum against them. All animations can be tightened up, though. I'm not saying it's great. But, the Deion sanders zig zagging using blocks didn't bother me at all.
