Cap Space in CFM

Why does every team have so much cap room at the start of my franchise? I use the Bills and I start with 44 m in cap space.

Because they actually have that much room - 5-10 teams have a ton of cap. Bills have offloaded a ton of talent, so that makes sense. Browns have a mountain of space as well, others not as much.

You're correct in the fact that there are a few teams that have $40+ million in cap space. But the Bills are not one of those teams, according to Sportrac, which is the most reputable site I can find for these things. According to them, the Bills have a little over $10 million in cap space for 2017 and around $26 million for 2018. For 2017 they rank 20th out of 32 teams in available cap space. Nowhere near $44 million.

The Bills have 11 million in space roughly. I went through every team and they all have over 20 million

A few things to consider are if rosters are 100% up to date, including the Watkins trade and the Bills receiver who retired (100% blanking on the name right now lol).

Also, are you in regular season already and at a 53 man roster? Teams currently have around 90 players, so any online source would reflect that to some extent.

Those are my only ideas, I haven't bought the game so I can't give more insight.

Doesn't Spotrac (which I love) account for all players currently under contract? I think all of those numbers will drastically change as the 53-man roster is finalized. Could be way wrong - ask @EA_White on Twitter

Re: Cap Space in CFM

My guess is a few things. One, Madden 'simplifies' contract structure. Roster bonuses & such are part of IRL contracts & cap hits but aren't in Madden.

Also can't recall if Madden starts any team with a cap penalty. So that could be millions off the cap right now they are basically giving Madden players that IRL teams don't have.

And as alluded to above, Spotrac is pretty detailed with entire rosters. I think Madden doesn't have some players that are under contract with their team. It's not a huge # but these things add up.

Re: Cap Space in CFM

Sportrac is an excellent website but the problem with Madden is the contracts are one size fits all, there's no roster bonuses, incentives, workout bonuses, dead money (in the first year of a CFM), prorated contracts etc etc. So the numbers won't always match up with the real salary cap numbers.

Looking at the Bills current cap situation they have 11.5 million in cap space (using Overthecap) and 14.2 in dead money. They also have the players outside the Top 51, which is about 40 of them that make anywhere from 465-770,000. If you add all the extra training camp contracts + 11.5 + 14.2 in dead money you come out very close to 44 million.
