I'm a passive defensive player. I call the play and usually have a safety highlighted. However I don't move the sticks or press any buttons and the safety and the rest of the ai players play defense once the ball is snapped.

This isn't happening anymore. The safety does not move, nor does any other player I try highlighting before the snap. Did they make it mandatory that you manually control a defensive player?

Why would they change this after it's been fine for like, ten years?

If I have to manually control a defender I quit. Mostly because I am bad at it yes but I don't understand the change.

What's also strange is that sometimes the player does actually move around and play D, but not often.

Also mad they took out unranked draft champions mode, or even ranked for that matter, apparently I need 5 tickets to play it that I do not have and don't have time to mess around earning them. It seems they've really tried to force people into a time sink here just to play modes that used to be readily accessible.

On Pro, the highlighted defender will move without your input.
On All-Pro, the highlighted defender will not move without your input, but as you said you can hold L1 and the defender will perform his assignment.
On All-Madden, the highlighted defender will not move without your input even if you hold L1.

*NOTE: None of this applies to defensive linemen because they auto-engage as soon as the ball is snapped -- but they won't perform any swim or power moves without your input.

Thank you for pointing that out. I guess I'll live with it but I really think they should change it back to the old way.

Is there an option to customize these settings anywhere so you don't have to hold L1 on All Pro to get the defender to start his assignment without the user doing anything?
