Slide mechanic broken?

Why is it that when I run with my QB I can use L2 + R2 and click the right stick to slide and give myself up in the pocket with the same input - but when I catch the ball or run with a running back I have to use L2 + R2 and Square?

Why is this not a consistent thing across the board? I feel that allowing it on the right stick makes more sense as you also juke with that input as well.

You misunderstand

The mechanic function's while you're the QB allowing you to click the right stick instead of the button press. However if you're a running back or receiver you have to use square. I'm just asking for consistency as I prefer to press the right stick.
