WR vs CB match-ups via depth charts

I got a question: If we use no coach adjustment, does CB #1 in defense depth chart by default match-up w/ WR #1 during game ?
I want to make sure in games I play that CB 1/2 match-up w/ WR 1/2.
Was this an issue in madden 17 ?

Re: WR vs CB match-ups via depth charts

If you don't use any coaching adjustment (and let's also assume no right-stick package substitutions for this whole post), your depth chart CB1 will always line up on the defense's left-hand side (the offense's right-hand side) and your depth chart CB2 will always line up on the defense's right-hand side (the offense's left-hand side). This mimics the behavior of M17, which was an intentional design choice by the developers to mimic how many teams in the NFL play defense.

If you use the By Depth Chart option, your depth chart CB1 will always match up with the opponent's depth chart WR1, even if that team's depth chart WR1 is not the best receiver on the team (say you're playing a user who swaps his best WR to WR2 to better fit his playbook, for example). For what it sounds like you want, consider using the By Overall option, which will put your best CB on the opponent's best WR regardless of depth chart position.

CPU teams will use the By Overall adjustment if their team has a OVR 90+ CB and your team has a 90+ OVR WR.

Re: WR vs CB match-ups via depth charts

I've found that using By Route Running produces the best coverage most of the time, even if I lose some battles because of a size discrepancy. User vs User may be a different story, but with the exception of obvious technique/leverage problems, the secondary is playing pretty solid now, IMO.

I really do wish that the CPU would use the WR vs CB match ups though. My number one wideout is able to get so many mismatches against weaker Nickle corners most games.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Ty. So, if I want to ensure the CPU (whether a guy is rated 90 or not) always plays 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2, how should I set both WR'S and DB'S in depth charts?

You can't reliably do this because most offensive playbooks move depth chart WR1 and WR2 around depending on the formation, and the CPU will only use the By Overall coach adjustment under the conditions prescribed above, else they will use the holdover M17 logic.

Only way to try would be to put your #1 as the #2 in the depth chartn baaically flopping your top two. It obviously isn't perfect but it's the only option you have.
