Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
I like the idea or quick progression for a short period of time and then back to normal progression. That would add differentiation between franchises. I would prefer dropping normal, super star and star progression and just have players progress as the game secretly dictates with periods of disclosed unusualy faster (and slower) progression.
PES has a seemingly random occurrence where a player starts to progress rapidly for a number of months. The game has a prediction for how good the player will get and when the decline should start happening. It shows it like a chart with age as the x axis. Sometimes when the rapid progression hits, the player dramatically exceeds expectation and you can see how far ahead the player is then was expected. Cab work in the other direction as well.
Sent from my SM-G960U using TapatalkPlayers shouldn't just die once they're in their 30s, not with athletes playing longer and technology being better. In madden 17, I built my franchise around my cap Al Bundy rb, who not only won mvp and a super bowl, but broke various records. But being Al Bundy, he was an old rookie, which quickly became a problem.
So despite all of his accomplishments, his speed was gashed in the offseason to the 70-ish range! No way should a rb be slower than most defensive players, even if he's 'old'. I tried to play him a fb to lessen the blow, but he was done after regressing. I had to cut Bundy, and I'm sure he went back to selling women's shoes.
I also don't like progression being tied to on field performance, since for defensive players it's much harder to do, while it was too easy on offense. The milestones don't factor in if a player is a backup, so their goals are unrealistic. On field performance should play a role, but it shouldn't be the only factor. They need to bring back offseason camps/drills.51 & 55

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
Yeah, I've been wanting player traits in madden for years, and a longevity trait is a great idea. I just wish that there were exceptions like the players you mentioned. Think of Brady in the nfl and Lebron in the nba. They are both arguably the best players in their sports, despite their age.Comment

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
progression/regression varies because of lots of factors: potential, work ethic, drive/determination, natural ability, learning ability, stress/pressure, role model/mentor, coaches, coaching, opportunity, morale, team mates, results, injury etc.
most of these were in HC06 or 09. classis example for me is LBs at the 49ers. Pat Willis wouldn't have been as good as he was without Singletary as his position coach. Bowman became as good as he was because the pressure was on Willis not him. Borland became better because Willis and Bowman were there, Brooks and Smith as well and therefore he was allowed to progress without stress.
to me unless you have coaching down to position level, you cant get close. in HC06 i got players to develop beyond their potential due to having good coaches.Comment

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
How is progression in the new Madden, are ratings any more balanced? Thoughts on XP for this edition of the game?51 & 55

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
I like the progression this year. It definitely is an improvement on the old XP system that gave the users too much freedom, and allowed people to cheese the system.
There are still aspects that could be better explained, and I'm not sure all positions advance properly, but I'm more satisfied with this system than any XP system we've seen in quite a while.Comment

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
It's definitely better than years past, but it's still far too easy for the human to snowball and eclipse the AI to the point where no team will have a meaningful shot against you by year 3 or so.
I can set up my base defense such that 9 out of 11 players are either linebackers or DBs. All 9 are scheme fits under multiple 3-4, so they all get a massive boost in weekly training.
With some RNG luck when upgrading I can even get 60-ish OVR, normal development CBs to turn into serviceable starters.Comment

Re: PROGRESSION: OVERHAULED
saw this linked in a comment you made on a 2k thread and have to say this was a great read and amazing idea!
I've not played Madden since 16, and a lot of it was due to how poor the direction of the game was going, and one of the biggest features was the intro of XP for progression.
It was crazy to me that an arbitrary 1 yard was the difference between my player getting XP for a game or not, and how that impacted how I played the game.
The game itself was always cheesy, so to then implement a game device that was inherently going to lead to more cheese was the sign that Madden had fallen off.
I hope they see this thread and introduce something like this on next gen because it'd really show they're trying to make a good football game instead of being run by marketing still.Comment

Things like that one yard difference absolutely killed it for me, this just isn't anything like real life at all. XP is just one of the fundamental flaws in franchise for me, I can't bring myself to accept it. I'd be ecstatic if they implemented this system on next gen (obviously lol). Idk how X-factors would be worked in, I don't have the game but have read some about them. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard though.
EA, if you ever read this, just ask me and I'll come up with something for the X-factors51 & 55
