I like Clint but I'm sure he has some input as do the entire team. Simulation football is irrelevant to EA/Madden, as evidenced in the most recent patch that included fixes and additions to almost everything except SIM and franchise modes.

So you chose to be one of those guys.

Gap assignments, pattern match defense, id the mike, none of that matters because one patch focused more on competitive play.

If you're happy with the game, great. I'm pleased for you. I played it last year and enjoyed the game when it was released. Then it was patched. And patched again. And all of those were geared directly for the online, competitive crowd. As soon as the tournament season was done they patched in a few things to make it right but that was a gesture.

The different gameplay styles this year just made the intention of the last patch more transparent. It's been happening for years though.
