Absurd CFM Regression... STILL

I literally don't understand regression in this game. I rushed for 1120 and 11 TDs with Lamar Miller and at age 27 his speed acceleration and agility all went down to 90. Some other stats went down as well. That is crazy unrealistic. 27 is young and he was top 5 in the league in all of those categories, yet Madden decides that he has to regress because of some uneducated algorithm in the game.

They need to fix this.

Sorry to hear you’re upset with the regression but to your post that sounds spot on to me. Running backs don’t tend to last long. The league cycles through players at pretty fast rate and for Madden to represent that in the game age regression has to be respected.

Curious does Lamar have a normal dev trait? That does (and should) make a difference.

If regression was more focused on being grounded in reality, players would suffer far less reductions in their tangible and intangible ratings and instead focus on steep reductions in ratings related to fatigue, injury, toughness, and slight reduction in physical ratings.

They would need to better design systems that support this though. What if players didn’t play with injuries on for example. This is the main reason they do this: keeps realistic league turnover but at the cost of realistic reasoning.

they have to have players regress that rate because they throw 80s on everyone.... excuse me but what has Hunter henry done this year to be an 87 ovr? i know Brissett has had some decent games against some bad teams...but an 80 ovr?? this is just beyond embarrassing

This is a good way to describe things. Very few RB's make it past 27 in the NFL, but this is a hamfisted way to represent that in Madden.

I dont like it either, but its better than having a league of 30-something RB's zipping around in good health.

If you think this regression system is an accurate way to represent reality then McCoy should suck and his agility should have been a 90 (since they won't let it go below 90), despite his on-field performance, because he is older than 27.

Oh yeah its totally un-realistic. With the way regression works in All-Madden players like Jamaal Charles, Megatron, Tom Brady, or Brett Favre will never exist.

What would be best (if EA took 2 seconds to think about this) is every time a new player is generated for a Rookie Draft randomly assign them a "regression begins now" age. For some RB's it might be age 27, some sooner at age 25, some later at age 30. This regression age could be a hidden figure that we cannot see, so that way you dont really know at what age that young RB you drafted will begin to regress.

If they just did that, it would be SO much better.

I’m not disagreeing with you that I’d like to see a different approach to regression. I’m hoping this will be part of a massive cfm upgrade next year.

As far as his “stats going” down I’m guessing you are referring to physical regression? Just because a player leads the league in rushing doesn’t mean that he isn’t starting to come up against father time. You can still be productive and not be the physical specimen you once were.

I get that for sure. The frustrating thing is that Madden takes nothing into account when make this type of regression. It's simply age-based. Hopefully they'll address it next year. The regression speed cap at 90 was a great late addition to this game.

That's a tight idea. It would make it more random and I'd be fine if I had an rb start regressing early if I knew it was a random trait rather than a systematic, blind reduction in stats just because.

Yeah, I tried Tweeting my idea to Rex and Clint last year, but they always ignore my Tweets :/

But its probably easier for them to program "all players regress at age 27" than it is to program than "each player regresses at a different age which is determined when said player is generated in the rookie draft."

EA kind of likes the "easy button"... so this is what we have and it will probably stay this way for years.

I mean... it took EA 3 years just to make the wind arrow point the correct direction on FG's and XP's (they finally fixed it in Madden 17). So I wouldn't hold your breath on something as nuanced as varying ages of regression to happen any time soon.

Just remember, the monopoly means you have no choice, and big-brother loves you.

Agree that regression is terrible and pathetic but disagree with your reasoning. Just because Miller has a good year doesn't mean he should get better or stay the same. But the blanket regression is terrible. Check out my signature (progression overhauled) for a better system

Totally agree that mental attributes should never really regress. Physical attributes should slightly regress, but injury, toughness, fatigue, etc. should definitely take hits as they age. And also, 2K has a peak age start and end thats in the player editor, Madden should definitely steal that.

Another thing as well, Madden should include vast tendencies for players, and make them dynamic. Such as, make a QBs throw deep passes tendency lower if he has no deep threat WRs, or make his scrambling tendency lower as he regresses. And maybe make his throw ball away tendency higher as he ages and gets more injury prone.

it should also have performance linked to %age of plays that player has played for regression

my nickel doesnt get on the field much as i play base mostly to force the pass, yet not hitting their unrealistic year target even though they may have only played 16% of defensive snaps, they regress as they had a bad year. more accurately they didnt get to play much which is madden was better would affect morale, negotiations etc.

asking a #4 mlber to hit 40 tackles in a 3-4 and then penalising them if they dont is dumb, targets, regression and exps really screw up how the game is played
