This really the way to do a true simulation. Dimond Mind Baseball used to beat many of the best baseball writers in predicting the upcoming season's standings, but did it by running 50 simulations, and then averaging the results.

I don't think of Madden as much of a sim that I would use to actually predict anything, but I do see today's game as more of atoms-up, like Madden is predicting here.

Might be interesting to run 50 sims of the season based on opening day rosters. I don't think Madden could do even a remotely accuarate job.

And DMB was really a replay text sim, specializing in recreating past seasons. But they also used Sabremetrics to do a projection disc each season that related before the season started. Personally, I thought it was freaking amazing how accurate they could get by applying ratings based on projections.

Tom Tippett never added franchise play, because he understood that the AI techniques available were not even close to providing a realistic outlook on the sport. OOTP is a pretty good indicator of why he feels this way. OOTP is best played with fictitious players, because the results don't look as bad, but you still can't let the AI try to manage a roster over and offseason. It just fails miserably.
