Re: Run Blocking

I think the bigger problem for me on All-Pro isn't that I can't run the ball, it's that the CPU can't run the ball.

Size and strength have almost no decision on outcomes only the fact that they focused on raising blockshed on these guys that are 85+ speed and less than 250 and they turn into missles on run plays. Iíve resorted to doing the same and it does kill any sort of realism.

This is the single biggest problem with madden right now, the refusal of EA to make Weight and Strength matter.

Re: Run Blocking

I just played a CFM game against the cpu yesterday because our league is on hiatus until Madden 19 but we can still play games if we want. Check this out, my left tackle is 6'7 335 lbs, 93 Pass Block. Barkevious Mingo, Mingo, has 83 finesse moves. Why did he have 3 sacks? I mean it was obvious the cpu was generating some BS pressure. On two of the sacks my LT just stood there and spun around on one foot and let him go right past him. On the third Mingo did his best Hulk Hogan impersonation and split the double team of my tackle and Guard within 2 seconds on a PA play. He was on my QB by the time the PA animation ended. I won the game easily but the fake generation of pressure by the cpu (that you'd never get), makes this game laughable at times. I realize this is a pass blocking issue, but it needs a lot of work too.

Going back to run blocking what EA needs to do is make sure the blocking is good enough to where certain runs are going to expose certain fronts on defense especially if you have the personnel advantage. I mean Dive, Iso, Traps need to expose 43 and Nickel Wide 9. If a person is stunting their linebackers and pressing gaps, bringing an extra safety into the box that's different but if they are just sitting back in cover 2 and cover 3 those plays have to be able to expose those fronts. People need to understand that you can't just sit in a front without understanding there are weaknesses and you have to cover the weaknesses if you want to run it.

You can't even outflank a defense in this game. Ace Pair, for instance, is a formation I ideally would like to use an extra Tackle at TE1 and then pound the rock to that side. But the extra tackle doesn't make it worth it as he just gets beaten like a drum. Again, EA has to force users on defense to pay attention. If I have an extra tackle out there, then the guy I'm playing has to drop the Safety into the box and maybe even have a stunt call between the Safety and the OLB. But if he is just stubborn and wants to sit back in a 2 deep shell that should be positive yards every time. And right now he can do that and because of the block shedding by the end or OLB having an extra tackle does nothing to force the hand of the defense.

Re: Run Blocking

The run game definitely needs work. There are a handful of overpowered plays and everything else is less than worthless. I've played H2H games without a single rushing attempt. It's just not worth pissing away a down in the name of "balance".

Interior runs are especially bad because a DT will blockshed almost every time. The only inside run worth anything, that I can think of off the top of my head, is the Deuce Close Wham, but if your playbook doesn't also have the stretch what's the point?

I'd also like to give a big +1 to the poster who pointed out that the AI will always call a front which counters your run play. The only way around it is to call a symmetrical formation and flip the play at the LOS. Even worse, if I come out in shotgun, and keep my run audible (usually inside zone), there is ALWAYS a three-tech lined up to that side!

Do you play with the "autoflip play" assist turned on? This may impact how well the CPU aligns against your play-calling. If so, turning it off may relieve some of this.

Oh yeah... my run block slider is on 80.
OK, yeah....that is not going to work well. The block sliders are duration sliders. So, they hold their blocks longer....which sounds good in theory. The problem is that the o-linemen do not switch-off well...so when a G/C combo is double-teaming a DT, they will just stay latched-onto him. With a lower setting, it will allow for one of them to properly disengage and engage another defender (such as a LB trying to fill the gap). Your injury and fatigue sliders will also play a significant role in how "sticky" those interactions are.

Lots of potential factors here; but sounds like you have something horribly imbalanced. Heck, it could be as simple as the RBK just being too high....the CPU countering that with increased defensive aggression.

Oh wait...
That's odd, I just played a season on default all pro, 15 min qtr, 18 sec clock with the Redskins, I had both Thompson and Perine go for 1200+ each, and ran for 700 with Kirk Cousins. Led the league in team rushing by a wide margin.
