Insight needed, Franchise Coach Mode

I need come advice concerning Franchise as a coach.

Please note: I play on All-Pro Simulation Coach Mode with default sliders (except injury, which is at 10). I only call the plays and do not control any players and watch the game with Broadcast camera.

I am rebuilding the Jets and am near the end of my third season. I have problems concerning my QB and my HB’s.

First of all, my QB. He is a draft pick from the end of my first season. He is a Pocket Passer with TAS 86, TAM 85, TAD 80, THP 88 and AWR 88. He has the trait “senses pressure” (which can’t be purchased with XP) as well as “throws the ball away” and “forces pass” is at “ideal”. Nevertheless, he does not move away from pressure when waiting for an open receiver and gets sacked about six times a game. I can understand when being blitzed but it is usually from a defender slowly pushing his way towards him.

The only thing I can imagine as the cause would be being a Pocket Passer. Maybe if he were Balanced or a Mobile QB he would move more?

Now my HB problem.

HB1 (Christian McCaffrey) – OVR 90, Injury 88, CAR 96, BCV 90, AWR 87
HB2 (Bilal Powell) – OVR 79, Injury 84, I don’t remember BCV, CAR and AWR, but all are lower than HB1.

Fumbles: HB1 loses a fumble every game despite CAR of 96. HB2 never loses a fumble. Why?

Injury. HB1 has yet to play three full games in a row due to injury, always misses 2-4 games. HB2 has as many touches for the season as his replacement, yet has not missed a single down due to injury. This makes no sense to me. The only thing I can think of is his stature. HB1 is a Speed Back and HB2 is, I think, a Power Back. Could this be a cause, despite a higher injury rating than HB2?

One last thing: Neither HB uses spin or juke or any other move to avoid defenders. Ever. But the AI opponents always do. I even had an opposing QB juke and spin to a long TD run. How do I get the HB’s to use moves?

If anyone who plays in a similar mode has any insight to any of these problems, it would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't tried it, but seem to remember an option to turn on ball carrier moves to auto

Both backs have the cover ball trait.

Re: Insight needed, Franchise Coach Mode

I play coach mode on All Pro , too, and found the way to avoid the weird pocket behavior was to set Player Type to Mobile, Throw Ball Away trait to No, and QB Style trait to Scrambling. It probably helps to have a QB with some mobility, as well. And despite the trait being No, he does sometimes throw the ball away, almost always on a scramble, which almost always takes the form of a sprint-toward-the-sidelines "roll out." You might also want to boost your Pass Blocking slider a bit.

Have never had such HB problems (and I've played a whole lot of coach mode Madden 18). McCaffery comes into the league with 82 Toughness and 87 Durability. I'd prefer my #1 back have better ratings there, especially Toughness. For the fumbling, you could try boosting your fumbling slider.

Finally, make sure you have Ball Carrier Special Move set to Auto in your franchise, under Options, Team Settings, Game Options, Gameplay Helpers, as well as outside your franchise under Customize, Settings, Game Options, Gameplay Helpers.

Thanks for the great reply. I prefer not to compensate with sliders, that seems like "cheating" to me. I will try to change player type. But where? Coaching schemes?

Re: Insight needed, Franchise Coach Mode

Go to roster, player card, edit player. At the bottom of the list is Player Type. Coaching Scheme preference for QB doesn't seem to matter.

BTW, I edited my reply to include a thought about Ball Carrier Special Move.
