Madden 17, Is it me or has the game improved?

I hadn't played Madden 17 since around the first of the year. I decided to pop it in yesterday and start a New CPU vs CPU Franchise. I do use my own edited Roster but didn't make any changes before starting the Franchise, and I first thing I noticed was improvement. Better cuts, no guys running out of bounds short of first down, Better Quarterback movement in the pocket.

Now I really liked Madden 17, but the things listed above drove me nuts. I am not sure if it is because Game Tuner updates are cut off to,the game or what is going on.

Has anyone else noticed a difference if you still play Madden 17?

I don't think game tuners were "turned off" since they were included with the last M17 update released for that game. If you uninstalled patch, well that's another story.

I'm still playing M17, since I only play offline franchise mode, and I love it. I needed to work thru a slider set for All Pro and make some changes to progression but, other than that, I think it's a really good game. Just my opinion.

I uninstalled Madden 18 because I had yet to get through an entire season without being disappointed and quitting. Right before the draft I installed Madden 17 and am having a good time. It is a much better game than 18 in my opinion.

M17 is just a better quality game. Tackling is more fluid and you don’t see defenders stopping to watch animations play out. Locomotion is less jerky. There’s less sacks because QBs aren’t tucking throws after full range of motion to take sacks. Plus more

I've gone back to 17 recently as well. Can't say I've noticed it performing better or worse than before, but compared to 18, I am enjoying this game more.

I think the EA staff must have been wrong and they've made improvements to the wrong game.

The biggest thing that bothered me about 17 was that you couldn't get qbs to scramble.This was finally fixed with a patch for 18 and worked in 16.I just don't think the qb AI was up to snuff period.


I liked 16 alot,wanted to like 17 but was too frustrated at some of the problems that were never fixed,and 18 was improved quite a bit finally a few months after release.

I have a ton of quarterback pocket movent and 3 to 4 scrambles a game with the mobile guys in Madden 17. A lot has to do with Roster and Sliders you use.

The first game I played on Madden 18 (which was just a few days ago) was Browns (me) vs Steelers (CPU) and Ben Roethlisberger scrambled for 58 yards on 5 attempts*. So, yes, the QB's never scrambling issue was resolved but whether it was resolved in a realistic way is still up for debate in my opinion...

In terms of gameplay I just found Madden 18 more annoying than Madden 17. Like what annoyed me about 17 (like not being able to run in a straight line, constantly losing control of my players due to long animations and so on) had been made even more annoying. Even though Madden 17 doesn't have great gameplay, it's easier to endure I guess, which is sadly all I hope for in Madden at this point.


*Ben Roethlisberger is a "scrambling QB" in that he extends plays and scrambles due to the pocket collapsing, but he's always looking to pass and rarely ever runs with the ball downfield. 58 rushing yards is about half the rushing yards Big Ben's rushed for in the last 4 years combined IRL (117)...

Are you playing patched or ootb because this was the big debate with 17.I think I played more ootb.I was getting the qb animation where he would run straight to the sideline before trying to run upfield but was never really a threat enough to spy.

Personally felt 16 was the best of the 3 except that the catching mechanics were too strong in 16. It felt too easy to make specular catches, which did get nerfed down.

Glad you say that because I was about to add that in my post this morning before getting called away. 16 does indeed have better qb AI than the last two versions and people would be surprised if they actually went back to play it fully patched. The thing that would mainly steer people away is not being able to fully edit players and a couple of the CFM additions that were decent additions.

Unfortunately it seems scrambling is controlled by tendency under ratings which you can't edit unlike traits. This is the key. You then have to edit speed to 66 or agility to 63 to get them off of scrambling. Most qbs are over 66 speed and or 63 agility including the likes of Big Ben,Eli Manning,Joe Flacco etc.
