I'm not trying to be a Richard and there is plenty of times where I agree with you but in this case, nah man, lol.

From what you have posted, you seem to be saying you don't blame EA for getting an exclusive with the nfl forcing 2k and every other company out of the market, which EA was trying to do long before 2k ever dropped the price of nfl2k because it serves 2k right for dropping the price of nfl2k to force EA out the nfl market, ie predatory pricing.

So to flip what seems to be your argument, based on the facts that we now know, even if 2k was attempting to use "predatory pricing", it would be to counter EA lobbying for years to force them and any other company out of the NFL gaming market with an exclusive license, therefore "fair game" and you shouldn't blame 2k, right?

I'm busting your chops some but it's all good, like bucky and reyes just posted, my POV has always been that the price point, along with an earlier release date, back then was an isolated marketing ploy to get the lesser known product more exposure, not some long term strategy to force competition out of the market.

Isn't the other caveat that we've heard through the years that the NFL didn't appreciate low balling of their brand?

At the end of the day, it all boils down to, this happened 14 years ago, it is what it was.

Does it all really matter, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Or, nah, this entity is to blame, nah, this company is to blame, etc.......

We've had these same discussions throughout the last decade or more. The deal is the same and the discussions remain the same. lol

No it definitely doesn't matter now, EA and Madden are what they are, 2k is long gone and likely never coming back, but in terms of a discussion if you see something you feel is misinformation then it's only your natural instinct to say "hold up, wait a minute", lol.

It is competition. I am not saying Sega deserved to be brought to court, nor that they were illegal in their actions, exactly. I am saying the tactic, the extreme price drop of $30 from the general market pricing, at the time, for a triple A game, was really extreme and had predatory pricing nuances, similarities.

I also am not suggesting that EA was not partaking in tactics to wrestle market share from competitors.

I would say that the final result, EA obtaining the exclusive deal may have been pushed by Sega's pricing tactic. EA couldn't compete at $19.95, IMO. Apparently the NFL decided for some reason to accept an deal. Could this have been the result of the Sega $19.95 tactic? I think there is too many coincidences to just be coincidence.

Ultimately it is competition..All Sega did to get the game out on its date, and the price, was about competing. That is what businesses do.

Hopefully that cleared up my position?

Yeah, I get that, and you have a good point, I don't mind a few people reporting the facts and correcting misinformation, just feels like over stating the facts. lol

I think we can all feel complete now and push it in another direction.

(while we are whiling away time waiting for EA Play lol)

Yeah and as stingy as EA was last year, we'll probably still be doing a lot of speculating come EA play. Hopefully some footage and info will leak the first week, but last year was rough. I don't expect it to get any better, especially with Rex being gone.

This was an incredibly frustrating marketing tactic. But, all we can really do is complain. I liked the old slow trickle of different feature information because we had more time to analyze each part of the new game separately.

I totally agree. I used to love to come to OS on a random day and see a new Madden info thread and the discussion that followed. The blog entries leading up to E3. I enjoyed pouring over that stuff and the thread to pass the time.

I guess it's better now with EA play for those who can attend, but for those unable to, it really kind of sucks that we get shut out and have to wait for gamechangers and youtube personalities to give us their take on the upcoming release. It's cool on the day info drops to have so many sources, but I guess I'm just stuck in my old ways.
