The draft reminded me how important formations subs are online

This is a needed addition for Madden 19. A player like Rashad Evans will probably play ILB on some formations, OLB on certain formations and EDGE on other formations and he's a potential every down player. You have guys who will be situational yet not every down. Another example is Harold Landry. I would wan't him to play OLB on 3-5 wide keep him off 3-5 regular while playing him at DE on 4 down sets.

There is no way to replicate this online. You simply don't have time. These are realistic lineups, they aren't exotic, and they aren't exploits. Exploits should not be used as an excuse. If the concern is that people will put WRs at RB and quick pitch all game then let's fix the O.P speed rushers, and how big backs are pancaked. I got back to playing Madden in 2017 and while I was generally impressed I thought the lack of personnel design and flexibility was the most dated aspect.

It also comes off as an excuse for poor ratings. I noticed that there is literally no reason to play guys that are in the rotation in real life because backups are universally underrated.

BTW
If there are any Sports Game devs in need of QA, PM me. My resume is thorough.

I'm noticing this while playing the CPU. You have teams that share the ball on the ground like the Saints. I played them yesterday and Ingram got two carries. I get that you don't wan't every game online to be like a conference championship with star possession receivers playing deep on third and long but if a team plays guys both ways in the regular season like Adoree Jackson then it should be in the game.

At least there are sub options while in the choose your play section (e.g., lb pass rush)

Some formation's don't have it. When they do have it, it literally defeats the purpose. The 4-4 doesn't. The Titans 4-4 is broken until fixed manually. The Titans have two big 3-4 DEs in Casey and Jones. If anything they should move inside on a 4-4 because as they are the best players available and to give the NT a rest. Some formations have the 4 DE sub package which would move them inside but it doesn't cross positions replacing the vacant DE with LBs and Edges. The DEs should be Dodd, Landry, Morgon or Orakpo. None of them are DEs in Madden so it doesn't even work on the regular Nickle. If Madden had better a pass rush package then it might replace Dodd with a MLB that can rush like the rookie Evans but that would be a layer on top of something that is already broken. The first thing I try to do online is fix the 4-4, though any 4linemen sets with 3-4 personnel have that issue. There is barely any time to do it online or off. This is something that should be pregame. This is just one team and a few formation but the issue is with any team that uses more modern personnel packages and/or multiple line sets has the issue too.

When you select 1-3-7 and the Big Dime with a pass rush package it will replace the linebackers who are on the line with big DEs. That is pointless or counter to why you would call a quarter or dime in the first place.

Its not as big an issue on offense because you have more time and less subbing. That gives you time to mix in specialist receivers and running backs. It doesn't allow the occasional two way player and the CPU doesn't sub like that. The CPU does not perform as teams that run by committee.

Using the DE pass rush package out of the Big Dime sets makes it far less likely you'll get pancaked if they call a run.

Re: The draft reminded me how important formations subs are online

^^ Shouldn't that be the other way around? Lets say you have a dime with 3 down linemen. When teams run 3 down its usually bug linemen who are decent against the run. If you select pass rush shouldn't that put your best pass-rushers on the line like big OLBs, Edges and maybe smaller DEs who are weaker in run support? Maybe its a big dime 1-4-6 that already has OLBs on the line and selecting pass rush replaces them with pass rushing DEs.

Another example that is just comical. The Titans have a long snapper that is a TE which means you can't assign him to long snap. We really need a longsnap rating.

While I'm in the wishlist mood,

Wishlist item number whatever: Give players xp bonuses for plays m

Re: The draft reminded me how important formations subs are online

It would be nice if formation subs work with customs. I mean they kinda do if your custom has the same formations as your scheme PB. I run a 34 base so I just select the Ravens D PB because it has a ton of the same formations that are in my custom.

Anyway, saying all that it would be nice if we could set formation subs based on game situations....So in theory we could have like 30 different formation subs set. Also, safeties to LB HB to WR and he'll even QB to WR should be allowed....also for the love of God bring custom packages back. And make it so literally any player can play any position....Also would it kill EA to add a dedicated long snapper position? And require each team to have one and only allow the actual LS to play LS, unless he gets hurt in game. And players who long snap who aren't long snappers should have snap harsh penalties.

NCAA had this. Not only did the formation subs adapt to the custom playbooks without issue(flipped formations, certain formation subs not sticking) but any player could be put in any position with very appropriate hits for straying too far from the original position. The only negative is you were limited to 50 subs total
