Looking to build a defense like the Seahawks

Any tips for play calling and types of players needed to replicate the legion of boom in Madden?

Re: Looking to build a defense like the Seahawks

From what I understand they run a lot of Cover 4 press and utilize the following:
Coverage Free SAFETY,
Big hitter at SS,
Corners who can press cover and are big
Coverage linebackers who have good speed

The real Seahawks run Cover 3 press more than any other coverage.

The AI will often try to mimic Seattle's approach by calling a lot of cover 3/cover 1 press. It gets them torched. These are the easiest defenses to beat deep in Madden. The play of outside deep third zones is not yet up to snuff.

Cover 3. Your middle 1/3 safety needs to have the highest speed rating to allow them to replicate Earl Thomas' ability to chase down passes and players from sideline to sideline.

My experience against the CPU defense is that it’s true. Against my defense vs CPU it hasn’t really happened.

Re: Looking to build a defense like the Seahawks

You can't fully replicate what the Seahawks and its copycats(Falcons,Jags) do because you can't press and play deep zones. The Cover 3/4 press doesn't actually press.

This entire time the Seahawks have changed the game and dominated with their Cover 3 press scheme in real life, you couldn't replicate much of it in Madden.

M19 supposedly changes this from the video clips I saw.

Anyways, the players you want to have are:

Super rangy, ball hawking, near psychic FS
Run stopping, TE neutralizing SS
Physical, tall, athletic, zone focused corners with high press

That's the gist of it for the legion of boom.

Play calling wise you want to utilize cover 3(Sky, Buzz/Show2, Press,) and Cover 1(Show 2 and Press). Yes you want to have the Cover 3 and 1 Press coverages be your bread and butter, but you have to mix it up at times too so great passers don't always know what you are doing. With all the ones I listed above, you should be able to play Cover 3 the majority of the time and still not have opposing passers certain and comfortable with what you are doing, in theory.

Next Madden this will be possible.

The coverages are nailed here.

Not to be underestimated; at their very best (2013) they had a relentless D-line rotation (Avril, Bennett, Clemons, Red Bryant, Brandon Mebane, Tony McDaniels) and an A-level LB group (Wagner, Wright, Irvin.. Malcom Smith)

An amazing unit overall, far more than just the DBs
