Said player (probably gets some kind of die role to determine) needs to regress by 3 Ovr. The game then will drop attributes to achieve this outcome. Attributes are weighted differently by position. Physical one's are usually pretty heavily weighted. People don't like seeing those ratings drop every single year. So now intangible ratings must drop as well to bring overall down. They are usually weighted less heavy. Hence big drops in SPC, Stiff Arm, BCV, Juke, Elusive, Pursuit, etc. It's all a numbers and coding game guys. When you look at it like this everything makes sense.
I don't disagree with you as it is the system we have. I am criticizing the system overall. The idea here is to rework the ratings system so we can have a realistic ratings and regression. I don't even need the overall since I evaluate players on gameplay. Obviously this is something that will take time. Just as we have moved forward in gameplay we also need to move forward in other areas to provide a more realistic experience.

Respectfully disagree my friend.

Source?

Many of us can name at least one player per team that although previously an all pro, suddenly disappeared (desean jackson)

If taken literally, I ageee with awareness and play recognition. But we know from slider labbing play recognition is not actual ability to recognize plays but how quickly the player physically reacts and anticipates (I.e. jumps a route for an INT if they are a DB). That said. The regression should play realistically despite the inaccurate naming.

D. Green played until he was on social security, but he jumped fewer and fewer routes as he got older. Vinny T was Brady before Brady but he didn’t go deep that often in his twilight. Same for Brad Johnson.

Re: Over the top Franchise player regression

Initially I was in the same boat when it came to something like AWR and Play Rec going down in that I didn't think it should but the more I thought about it, I kept thinking about Derrick Johnson with the Chiefs last year. He was still a serviceable player and there were still times where he would look like his old self but he was a shell of his former ability and there were more and more times where you'd find him out of position on plays than any years prior. And a lot of that has to do with two achilles tears and his physical ability just not being where it used to be which can be represented in Madden but the thing that can't be represented is having to compensate for such. I wouldn't necessary look at it as getting dumber so much as trying to pair with reduced phsyical ability to represent an increasingly limited player.

Me neither. All of the players he is highlighting are still serviceable and capable of playing at a pro bowl level. Most of those players are also in their early to mid 30's. If they don't start regressing then when do you expect them to regress. What's the point of team building and drafting for depth when nobody regresses and just eventually retires

Re: Over the top Franchise player regression

When Madden puts out weekly ratings adjustment we might see a steady decline or increase in overall. In Franchise, we see the steady increase in ratings but never the steady decrease. Instead it hits at the end and it looks like a lot. If the decreases were spread out over tue year it wouldn't be tha5 much of a shock. Obviously if a guy still puts up numbers the decrease wouldn't be as Sharp. Injuries should factor in as well. Older guys should take longer to come back from injuries and maybe take a bigger ratings hit.

To the people complaining about awr and play recognition dropping, I get it, but because of how the rating system works, these kind of HAVE to drop or else we'll be getting the old problem of having an 88 rated 75 speed CB getting burned as a starter. He's still getting playing time because his play rec and awareness inflate his rating even though the 90 speed 78 OVR guy is probably a better option.

Also when players DO lose a step, you don't think this effects them mentally? Its hard for guys to adjust to the fact that they don't have the ability to do some of the things that they used to and they have to play the game differently. It makes sense when you think about it.

Re: Over the top Franchise player regression

might be worth a dig, what the NFL stats/figures involving player retirements ages? like normally HBs in the pros last what till 30-31? if there lucky.. im not sure for TE... 30yr old seems a bit old for that position also...
