It’s kind of tough to say. You would have to define regression on something other than stats in order to really tell.

If the average nfl career is 4 years most players would retire or get replaced well before 30. Any player playing beyond 30 is likely very Elite.

Re: Over the top Franchise player regression

A Age Regression Slider by position would solve this problem. QBs and WRs play into their mid 30's, TEs play into their 30's, OL can play well into their 30's. Maybe go off Dev trait? Superstar Dev trait and over a certain OVR can prevent regression from happening. While normal dev trait would still have the current one but raise it to 31/32.

Even if EA opened the box and allowed us to set the regression age for every player(I lnow, this would be very time consuming) but instead of all QBs, WRs regressing at once, we could move Brady's regression age to 35. AB's regression age to 35, etc.

LMAO! This is why the system needs overhauled. Got to move to a more realistic system. Larry Fitzgerald is not losing that much in spectacular catch. Players gotta be shaking their heads right now.

Players fall off a cliff all the time. For every Larry Fitzgerald there are hundreds of others who never see a second contract.

I also got a chuckle out of the notion that AB shouldn't start to regress until he's 35. He's only 30 now. If someone were taking action on it I would bet my net worth against him being on an NFL roster at age 35.

Go poke around in Vegas, you will find plenty of takers on that one. That would be a stupid bet, considering he is THE best receiver in the nfl, at one of the highest longevity positions. He will easily play another 5 years if he chooses to.

Several years into a franchise you have 77 speed corners that are getting torched but because of the overall calculations they are still starting and coveted. What is needed is a desire to keep playing attribute which would make most players retire when they start to lose a step. Combine that with a high emphasis in the overall with the physical skills to play a position and we could get a lot closer.

I disagree that it can't be accurate. DeuceDouglas already gave some good examples. It should be pretty easy to determine the critical stats that degrade more quickly for each position group. And physical stats should slowly degrade for every position with age.

And then there should be the random big regression which forces a player into retirement. Which can easily be coded taking certain factors into account and also adding a randomness to it. Like once a player is above 30 there is a chance they can "fall off a cliff" at any point. And there should be career ending injuries in the game.

I do agree with the issue with the OVR rating and physical stats. There should be a threshold for position groups. And once the physical stats fall below that threshold there is a more significant penalty to the OVR.

All of that seems fairly easy to design.

Re: Over the top Franchise player regression

so finished first test season on xbox1. even with tdawgs sliders added week 11, oline in particular become zombies. nearly every 29+ oline (except for a few) ovr and stats are so weak that the only reason they are kept and younger/cheaper oline not signed is the bonus penalties
