Read option is broken

I get what you're saying about the read option, but that second video is different. The DE is going at the QB, it's just hard to tell. They don't hesitate and crash like in real life, they just ran at either the QB or the HB. The one you kept, you could see a slight difference in the pursuit angle off the line. The ones where your QB got blown up, the DE was going after the QB.

The pursuit isn't realistic, which makes it very tough to make the proper read. So it's not that the DE can make both plays, it's just tough to see which guy he's going after.

Is read option broken, or just this particular play? Both videos are the same play, same formation, and we all know some plays just flat out don't work. I've run read options from shotgun for some good gains. I don't run it a lot, but if it's for a loss it's usually me making the wrong read.

I think this nails it. The first video, the guy says you can clearly see the DE is going for the RB, but you can't tell that. The QB and RB are in the same spot. It's just a poor implementation by the defensive pursuit.

On top of that, even the second video the defense is in nickel 2-4-5. I wonder how it would work against other defensive formations.

Run this in actual game. Run it from different formations. Run it with different teams and players

Like he just said, I've run the read option, and have gotten gains from both my RB and QB.

In the second video I used two different versions of the play...I'll make yet another video. Jeez it's no wonder this game has had certain issues for years. People cant seem to tell what's going on.

I wouldn't say that people can't tell what's going on, but that this thread basis is a broad over-generalization. The read-option itself is not broken, but it may be in certain formations or certain plays. I didn't notice you change to two different versions of the play but maybe I missed it because I was watching practice mode where the same play is run over and over. It was also against one defensive formation. So it begs the question if there would be a different result against a 4-3, 3-4, dime, regular nickel, etc.

To just say "read option is broken" is inaccurate. Many of us, myself included, have run it with a good amount of success. That leads to the complaint being dismissed. If you had said "Read option from this formation does not work. DE blows it up every time regardless of choice. I've tried this against multiple defensive formations and plays and always the same result," then throw in your video, of it against multiple defenses, I don't think you would face as much of a backlash.

I did have something like the OP is saying happen in the first couple of games I played with the Panthers. I would run the RO from the shotgun formation and the DE would crash on the HB, then spin around and tackle Cam before he could get going.

I haven't seen it since then, as I ran a few successful RO's in my online CFM preseason game last night with Trevone Boykin and Taylor Heinicke. I'll keep an eye out as I keep running them, and hopefully remember to catch some videos to post here.

Agree with OP. They changed the way defenders commit or don't commit to the read.
