Franchise Mode Linebacker Question

So, I know that a Strongside Linebacker is also known as a LOLB, while a Weakside Linebacker is known as a ROLB. I see several teams have this kind of backwards in Madden. So, an example would be Oliver Vernon. Madden has him as a Weakside, or ROLB. But, in real life, he plays LOLB, aka Strongside. So, did Madden mess up, does it matter what scheme is being run, in this case a 3-4, should I move Vernon to LOLB so he is playing his accurate position? I have also seen this with Justin Houston and the Chiefs. Thank you for any responses!

Re: Franchise Mode Linebacker Question

madden has never handled this issue in my opinion. i look at it differently. my madden rolb is on the field the 2nd most snaps (assuming no formation subs/packages or specialist), i want my best players on the field as much as possible especially according to madden i will be paying them based on their ovr not production.

this is where you have detach from reality. my 2nd best lber is my #2 MLBer so in game i change them to rolb #1. given i normally have 10 lbers on my roster i then pick the best (not ovr but me looking at awr/prc/tak/mcv/zcv/bsh/spd) to go lolb/mlb#2.

i do the same with dbs, i have 5 good safeties all of which are better than my cbs at being cbs. the scheme fit and logic for signing/drafting by need makes no sense in my opinion. i believe most GMs take the best available in the draft with caveats like im not taking a qb in round 1 when i got one last year etc. sort of best available that could be used commensurate with draft pick position.

my depth chart is changed as soon as i enter the game to reflect who i want on the field most.

To build on what Ueauvan was saying...

Madden doesn’t handle this at all. Weak side is the linebacker on the side with no TE and strong side is with the TE. Madden doesn’t flip linebackers to match. What you’re saying about ROLB and LOLB can be right sometimes, but offenses don’t always have the TE on the right side of their line.

Madden does not flip positions. If you have auto flip on it flips the formation but not the personnel. There should be an option to flip everyone to match. Since I have my formations and plays sets for players to mostly do what they are good at I have auto flip turned off or it would put my linebackers and safeties doing things they are not meant to do.

I wonder if there's a way in future Maddens they could change the outside linebacker positions on the depth chart to strong side and weak side. I wonder how hard it would be to get the logic in to the coding of the game to align the defense this way.

It’s currently in the game..via 34 Predator..it places the LOLB on the strong side and the ROLB at the weak side ala LEO..and in 34overed..moves the ROLB weak side and the LE strong side..so it can be done..just needs to be expanded on

Yea I guess I never paid attention to that since I usually run 4-3 on defense in Madden. Next time I play a game with a 3-4 team I'll have to pay attention to that. Also the new depth chart positions we got added in this year were definitely a step in the right direction, they just need to be expanded on. It's nice that they give you an easier way to utilize more of your roster and makes situational role players worth having on your team. I love drafting a bigger bodied safety with good tackling and decent block shedding and coverage skills and playing them at the sub LB position alongside my best coverage linebacker.

Re: Franchise Mode Linebacker Question

Thank you to everybody who responded, I have an idea of what Madden does with that 3-4 Predator thing and basically flipping the OLBS... and yes, to what some people said, Madden definitely should rename OLBS to Strong Side and Weakside.
