If you offer them less at the end they may take it. Not always....if you want to keep them. Their asking price isnt less, i just offered less.

Offer the backups 7-yr contracts for minimum salary and no signing bonus in the last signing period, and you'll be surprised at how cheap some of your bench players are (plus it costs you next to nothing to trade or cut them later).

What fun is that though? That is just cheating the AI to get an advantage. If that makes it fun for you to each throw own but I enjoy the challenge of trying to build a team with depth while staying under the salary cap.
