Missing Feature: Quickly tapping the button to break tackles

One thing that Madden has always missed the mark with is the ability to quickly tap a button to break tackles. This was one big reason why running the ball in NFL2K5 made it so fun. Giving the user the ability to continuously tap the button while the RB engages with a tackler gives the sensation of really fighting for those extra yards.

I really hope the Madden Dev's take note of this... Its one of those little things that makes a huge impact on the fun factor. At least give us the "Option" to toggle this feature on/off. I guarantee this though...giving us the ability to engage in a battle for extra yards by quickly tapping a button will be a HUGE addition to making Madden much more exciting to play. Again...this was one of the BIG aspects that made running the ball in NFL2k so exhilarating..especially when the game was on the line and only a few yards were needed to win or extend the game...having to fight for those few extra yards was fun.

I guess the biggest reason why tapping the button quickly to break tackles made NFL2k so fun, is what i said, the "physical" requirement in quickly tapping the button to break out of tackles actually gives the user the sensation of having to physically fight for those extra yards.

I'm all for options for everyone, but it's not something that I've enjoyed playing sports games is becoming a "thumb jockey" or "button jammer."

Another category, to each their own.

I know this has come up in some discussions at OS in the past.

I'm not the biggest fan of that feature, but I was always more of a fan of it than the tackle battle we got last year. If tackle battle remains I'd rather see it more like 2k, but it wouldn't be the same since sprinting is different between the games as well.

Doesn't lowing your shoulder increase the chance of a broken tackle? I'm fine with that and letting ratings and RB moves to determine the rest.

Your asking for a lot is of controller buttons to be worn very quickly.
Some gamers are very heavy button mashers.

Unnecessary wear and tear that quickly becomes an additional cost just to play the game.

There’s user control, then there’s overkill.

Also, you just excluded a newer community (those with disabilities) that they’re trying to incorporate going forth.

No to the tackle battles but I agree that I miss the engaging aspect of the 2k series where "you" had some control over breaking tackles by pressing the button. I am not talking about some "quicktime" event but it was done well that as a defender wrapped you up you could theoretically "break" the tackle by tapping the button. It just felt right back then and I do miss it but something tells me the current Madden programmers wouldn't be able to capture the same feel anyway, and I definitely didn't like the tackle battles either.

Another aspect of 2k5 was you could charge up a runner by holding the same button and when needed execute a better spin, juke, stiff arm, whatever....but at a cost to your stamina. As I recall you tapped the "a" button rapidly when you got in the clear to sprint which actually simulated running I guess? It didn't bother me back then at all and if a defender was approaching you could hold "a" to charge up for a move. You had to stop sprinting to do this which seemed slightly sim?

I don't know. I guess it wasn't really a sim thing but it sure was engaging. Thinking of this makes me miss some of the simpler times where we weren't so critical of every little "non-sim" aspect and just enjoyed the games.

As of last year when they brought it back, the Break Tackle rating is the main thing you want to look at. Trucking comes into play in conjunction with BTK if you are specifically using the truck ballcarrier move.

Honestly, I cheese it on Franchise. I keep the moves on CPU controlled or automatic and for big backs like Fournette, he'll truck em with no issues. Same goes for elusive type backs where they will shed one on one, sometimes two on one tackles.

I think I could get on board with this idea if the defense had a "quick strip" counter when the running back was trying to fight for yards. Something Madden does a poor job with is realistic strip fumbles.
