Cap space confusion

Doing a franchise with Philly since they have been my team all my years. When it came time to negotiate with players to resign them midseason it said I had a crazy low amount of cap space. So I clicked the button to end talks and not be interested in a few key players. I was just now messing around in the free agent screen and clicked on a player to sign and the avail cap space with MUCH higher. I’m confused here

When resigning players the cap space shown is for NEXT season as that's when their new contract will start. Signing players in FA during the season it shows your cap space for the current season since it's always a 1 year deal.

That’s what I was assuming but wanted to be sure . Thought if I’m letting all these quality guys walk for no reason I’m gonna be mad as hell 😂😂😂
