Rookie QB development help

Alright, so I am using the Broncos for my Madden 20 chise, and I am trying to develop Drew Lock the "right way". By the right way, I am referring to having a vet sit in the seat until hes ready. So, for the first year in weekly training, I have him set to be focused on to help him since hes not playing on a regular basis. Going forward into year 2 I plan to let Flacco go to help with free agency, and maybe sign Bridgewater on a 1 year deal as another short term gap filler.

The issue I am having is wither to keep him on another year of focus development in the weekly training at the sacrafice of other rookies I draft. I'm really at a loss on what I can do to get him ready, and by ready I am talking st least a 70ovr. Any tips beyond playing him in blow outs, and when the starter struggles would be helpful. I just want to make sure I cover all my bases and not blow it.

Re: Rookie QB development help

Definitely keep him as the focus player for the whole first season and since QB is such a crucial position, I'd recommend keeping him on it in the second season as well. In addition to that you can make sure that each week your weekly training drills are ones that benefit the QB's to make sure he's constantly reeling in XP. This might hurt other positions slightly but it'll provide a constant flow of XP to him meaning he will progress faster.

I used the Broncos in a simulate franchise recently and did the same thing where after season one I cut Flacco and moved Lock to starter and kept him as a focus player and he was up to I think an 80 or 81 after five seasons.

Re: Rookie QB development help

I have yet to dig deep into CFM in M20, but based on M19, the best way I found to develop a player is to just throw them into the fire. They should get every snap in the preseason. Once the regular season starts, if they look overmatched and you can't win with them, then that's what the Flacco / Bridgewater insurance policies are for. But there is no substitute for game reps.

The problem with the 'right way' is when you run up against the rookie contract expiration. Slowly developing a guy to 77 OVR in three years or doing it in one year still results in the same contract extension after his rookie deal... So I like to take my lumps early and enjoy more on the field production under his rookie deal.
