How do we feel about player progression now?

To me all this feels boring. Everyone seems to grind up the same now.

At least in Madden 17, you could have a random surprise player jump up in EXP in a single season... Like a "diamond in the rough" on your team.

But now with the Normal, Star, Superstar and weekly progress it all feels like the same equasion for everyone with no surprises. Stars and super stand ALWAYS move up fast and that's not realistic and soon as you know the player is a normal it's over for that 65 overall.

Normal backups move up a point at a time so it takes 3-4 years form a 65 to get to 80 and not a "jump in a year" option. No surprises, no one "clicks" and with the schemes being nerfed its all a pretty easy calc for building a team

Would love to know what the community things here. Are you seeing the same thing? or do you have players surprise you and jump up in a single season.

If u hit the breakout player goals you can have that 'suprise' player...im raiders in cfm and had ss Abrams gain 9 points by hitting goal and went to star dev as well, better than last year at least.

I’ve had Reuben foster jump like 10 points to like an 81 with normal dev .

Had Noah Spence become a star out of nowhere. Now he’s starting on my team and should really break out.

I love the development. I don’t really have complaints

Do you know what caused that?... like the prior comment from hitting goals?

Re: How do we feel about player progression now?

I've actually found that there is a lot of variation in player progression and that several things can influence how a player develops.

As you said, the development trait plays a huge role, but the scenario engine can change a player's development trait which can lead to the breakout type of seasons that you mentioned. A normal player should take a long time to develop because they are average. A star player should develop quicker because they have something more.

Because of patches, sliders etc. I've played two Colts franchises now. In my first, Parris Campbell did nothing for like two years, whereas Anthony Walker had some good games year one, upgraded his dev trait and was 80ish after two seasons. The second time around, Anthony Walker was a bum and Parris Campbell was the one to break out.

I'm loving the player progression this year. To me, it seems that no two years will ever be the same. There are a lot of variables that will influence outcomes.

In mine Jachai Polite on the Jets was like a 73 and got a boost to an 81 after doing some breakout criteria and got a Dev boost to Star. I think this is their attempt to simulate breakout players and stuff.

It is absolutely horrible.

In reality not every player just continues to get better until they are 29 and then starts to drop off.

Players bust, plateau, fall off after injuries. Theres late bloomers, etc.

The XP system will never be a good progression system because it treats every player exactly the same.

I do agree with this. It would be nice if the scenario engine negatively impacted players as well as impacting them positively.
