Pretty sure that ATH was only in recruiting for NCAA, and that once a season started they had to have a position.

That said, there should be more alternatives to sub players. The counter to the "too many fast players if you can sub a CB at WR or HB" would be setting their ratings low enough to make it worthless to do that other than as an occasional gimmick play. A CB at WR should only have a catch and route running rating in the lower 60s, but it should be an option. Ditto for putting a 6'6" WR at DB for jump ball hail Mary situations.
