Pass rush moves

If your scheme calls for a Power rushing DT, and you put a speed rusher in what pass rush move does the DT use? do they try to use their Finesse moves since its their best move or do they try to use their power move since thats what the scheme calls for or do they switch between the two?

Re: Pass rush moves

Players use their preferred moves. As far as I'm aware scheme has zero impact on actual gameplay.

Re: Pass rush moves

Under AI control it's dictated by traits. Power rushers can still get spin and swim moves because guys who they want to be elite on the base rosters are almost always good at both.

If you have a guy with really high PMV and low FMV you can have degenerate cases where they might have the swim/spin move trait and actually end up being *worse* blocked 1-on-1 as opposed to double teamed where their high PMV and presumed bull rush trait would kick in.

Agreed. If you have the wrong player in the wrong scheme, he will lose one or two ratings points, but do ratings really matter that much in this game? Am I really going to see the difference between my LT having, say a 75 AWR vs a 78 AWR? Highly doubtful.

I'm more asking because I have a DT with a pretty good finesse move but low power move rating and wanted to know if it would be worth developing him or if I should try to trade him since he doesn't fit my scheme and hes not going to take advantage of his good finesse moves

It really just depends on your scheme, other personnel and how you plan to use him. A guy like that could end up being valuable as a rush DT, and with teams using more 3 WR sets than ever you’ll coming out in sub packages more often so he’ll get plenty of playing time. Often times when I don’t have well rounded starting d-line I’ll draft or sign a pass rush specialist with high power or finesse move and play them in my sub packages. Even though his power move is low he has a pretty good finesse moves so he should be fine. Heck depending on his athleticism and block shed you may even be able to develop him in to an every down player. If you run a 3-4 a guy like that with enough athleticism and BSH can actually be useful to slot out at DE in base sets, and could make a serviceable starter at DT in 4-3 base sets.
