But I'm curious if the counter will be based on the play selected or the play actually run? If the former, the H2H kiddies will just audible into their usual cheese plays.

A really interesting wrinkle would be that if you audible out of a play, the original play called AND the one you audibled into would be locked for the prescribed number of plays.
I’m with you here, I don’t like this for franchise mode it’s too restricting. Often times football is about running a certain concept a few times to bait teams in to selling out to stop it then running a different concept out of the same look. One example is often times I’ll run a stretch run RPO out of a specific formation a couple of times to get my opponent thinking about it. Then after a little while I’ll call a dive out of the same formation once they are looking for the stretch run. If there’s a cool down period on plays and your opponent knows that they know they don’t even worry about it until that period has ended it defeats the whole purpose. I know for MUT and competitive play you get a lot of players just constantly running a rotation of running plays. But this just feels like they are like well instead of improving the a.i. to cut down on the money plays let’s introduce this as a band-aid.

The defense is going to be able to get away with spamming the same front all game and I won't be able to use the best run available to counter it.

This is dumb.

Yup, My gameplan is built on the very foundation of having "set-up" and then "pay-off" plays from almost all of my formations used.

If they want to set this up as optional, then that's fine. Again, I worry about this bugging up playbooks/gameplans. What happens if you have a play that becomes locked and is also set up as an audible?

I understand the need to update issues that arise throughout the cycle. As we've all learned, when EA attempts to add a feature thru a patch, it doesn't always go down without unintended consequences.

Another good point here. Never even thought of that.

But....but....that introduces RNG and reduces skill gap!!! (or insert whatever other excuse the comp kiddies use).

Look, AI is already dumbed-down for comp mode and any attempt to improve AI across the board has resulted in crying from the kiddies. AI is completely brain-dead on FIFA and NHL due to these same sorts of complaints....Madden would be too if not for comp mode.

This is actually an elegant solution for the repetitive meta cheese that has turned Madden eSports into the farce it is. No matter what the meta is....people won't be able to call the same play over and over....it'll force at least a little more branching out.

It's not a realistic fix but it IS a "video game fix" for a "video game problem". We'll see how successful it is....I'm not expecting any miracles....

In the meantime, I'm going to just carry on like normal....

I was thinking the same thing.

If this makes it's way in to franchises though it's an awful fix. Literally takes some of the guesswork and strategy out of playing the game when you know your opponent can't run that same play until after the cool down period so you know even if they come out in the same look you don't have to defend it.

Don’t know how many more of these we got to look forward to so I hope they address some of the glitchy stuff still popping up in coverage like the zone presses that allow receivers to get over the top and maybe finally add the mable check into the 3 match coverages vs. trips.
