What are the implication of Madden 21 being a next-gen title (PS5/XBX)?

Previous-gen CPUs were storage and CPU bound relative to modern consoles/PCs.

My guess is this means:
  • End of significant loading screens (PC folks with SSDs already enjoy this)
  • More CPU overhead for complex gameplay, especially animations
  • Raytracing likely to be enabled in the game engine

Anything else? What do you think are likely to be enabled by "next-gen" Madden? I don't think they'll move to a new engine entirely with this generation jump.

leap in graphics especially around sidelines

madden 21 on the ps5 might be a minor jump madden 14 for ps4 was but madden 01 for the ps2 was a HUGE JUMP

There's a diminishing return on graphical improvement. Lighting could still take a big step up though.

I suppose refs would be back on the field, sidelines might have the actual players and their names on jerseys, more varied sideline animations and interactions, maybe crowds more real, would be nice to have the preseason and blowout leave-early crowds too. Seems like presentation around the game would greatly enhance.

Grace awaits the willing heart…

My expectations on graphics:

- player models
- jersey physics (sleeves actually being loose)
- facial and hair details
- sidelines (more personnel)
- stadium exteriors and surroundings
- LIGHTING

We've seen in NBA 2K, lighting makes a huge difference. I expect there to be location specific lighting and seasonal lighting.

The implications would be drastic improvement on graphics... actually getting closer to the day where we cannot tell the difference between a real life player and a video game players.

While we are marveling over graphics, gameplay won't improve fast enough. We will excuse the devs with "it takes time to learn a new system" as we get 2-3 years into the PS5 years. There will still be bugs and glitches... maybe even more.

This will ESPECIALLY be the case with the first installment. EA will not invest more resources (ie hire new people). They are basically releasing two games in the same year. So if it took a team of 40 people 6 months to make a game, that same team now has to make 2 games in 6 months.

Good luck with that.

Big jump in on the field physics. Warping, clipping, and animation jank should mostly be eliminated.

Man...I still remember Madden 01 and seeing MESH.

I would expect sideline detail with real players , perhaps more staff and referees. At least to the level MLB the Show does it.
