I'm ancient (41). I've played every Madden since I was in middle school (Madden '92), and while I enjoyed the franchise modes from '99-'12, I never understood the adoring love for any of them. The only "franchise mode" I adored was Head Coach '09.

That being said, even with all its faults, I enjoyed M'20 thoroughly, playing with strict house rules.

Played the heck out of 09 for years. I loved NCAA 09 too. I didn't play another Madden till 25, but only for my NCAA 14 draft classes. Everyone talks about 12 maybe I should find a copy.

Easily would say the PS2 Maddens '05-'08. Madden '10 on the PS3 was also fun even though the franchise lacked some of the older features.

Unless you are basing your pick primarily on gameplay, there is no way anyone should choose a PS4 version.

I've played every Madden since the NES and primarily only in franchise mode.

Madden 08 on the pc. Using the franchise editor, I've yet to experience a madden football franchise since playing that version. Every football season I run straight to that for my franchise fix.

Though I will say, SABO's franchise mod for M20 is really good as well. I get the best of both worlds.
