Trap Blocking and Pulling Guards

Why do teams pull guards and run assignments like trap blocking?

I obviously understand guards pulling in tosses and outside run plays so that they can get out ahead of the play, but what advantage does it have in inside run plays like Traps?

As I understand, the LG might trap block back across the line whilst the RG and C block in the opposite direction. Why not just have the all linemen block in one direction and have the RG block the guy who the LG would be trapping?

"The play is known as a "trap" because the strong side offensive lineman will "block down" on a linebacker, seemingly leaving a defensive lineman unblocked. As the defensive lineman comes through the seemingly open gap/hole, he is "trapped" by the weak side (also known as backside) guard who blocks the defensive lineman's blindside. Basically it allows an extra blocker in front of the RB by keeping the over-aggressive DL "trapped."

If I may add, its also a tactic that delays and throws off defensive assignments. There for giving the OLine a little bit of an advantage in the trenches. Similar to a stunt action on Defense. It gets the D looking one way while u go another way. Just another tool in the box like draws and counters.
