    Career Mode (Player CFM)

To anyone that plays a CFM as a player, how do you handle play calling since they removed the “quick” option starting with Madden 20?

I know some think the game is a horrible play caller but for authenticity, the player shouldn’t be calling their own plays.

Anxiously waiting to see how you guys handle it...

So I've always been a big (True player career mode) for madden.

It takes so much outside/external work to make it enjoyable.

As far as play calling goes it is dependent on the position im playing.

If I play defense I call defense true to real life scheme and identity. Then the next influence is the roster strengths.

On offense qb I usually do coach suggestions or game manage my personal favorites.

Running back is usually run heavy 17-35 carries a game

Wr is tough because of lack of concepts and qbs decisions. But same thing.

Basically I just game manage as teams would do in real life. Try not to abandon any studs that play w me.

I don't do player CFM's all that often, but...when I do...I don't influence play-calling in any way. I know that the AI play-calling can be wonky, but I prefer to handicap myself as much as possible in a player-career.

I handle it this way b/c...let's be honest...if any of us handled the play-calling then our player would be all-world. I want the challenge of having to work with constraints.

That’s true. My question is though, without the coach calling the plays (or using quick play calling that only displays 1 play) in Madden 20 and Madden 21, how do you remove yourself from the play calling?

I’ve tried using the top concept from running, short, medium and long passing and calling plays from coach suggestions... only calling plays from those concepts. Works well enough.

Choose a concept.. then blind scroll and pick a play is a good randomizer

Could mix it with formations instead of concepts as well

Sometimes I really get granular like:

Ok, the personnel group with the most formations is 11
The formation group with the most sets is Gun
Let me only run plays from Gun w/ 11 personnel using the leading concept for running, short, med. & long passing

            Ha

So in JAX's playbook, the concepts with the most plays break down like this:

              Run: Inside Zone
              Short Pass: Stick
              Medium Pass: Smash
              Deep Pass: Shot Play

It actually wasn't bad. It kind of takes you out of the play calling and sort of simulates calling plays based on your scheme.

                Re: Career Mode (Player CFM)

I tend to use coach suggestions. I always want to limit myself from calling plays for myself. Only time I call plays in Player CFM is if I'm a defensive player.

I just hope for next gen that AI and AI playcalling is overhauled. I want to be able to have faith in playcalling and AI teammates to perform intelligently. If I'm a non QB, I want to trust that my QB and OL won't screw me over due to poor AI logic.

From an AI teammate perspective, having played through 1 full season in M20, Fitzmagic did pretty well as my cpu-controlled QB throwing for over 3500 yards while I rushed for 1300+. I can't complain. I think the big thing is getting a realistic play calling strategy established. For most of that M20 season I used the play calling method that I outlined in Post #7 to get those stats.
