Trades In Season

For those of you who try and keep your franchise realistic if your team makes a trade in season whether you like the move or not will you do it?

Nah, to me “realistic” is just starting the franchise with accurate rosters; after it starts, all bets are off. They become two separate entities at that point, in that they’re dealing with two different sets of circumstances regarding performance and injury.

Put another way, there’s absolutely no way to keep your roster 1:1 with the real team anyway, as by week 8 or 10 99% of teams will be carrying guys either not in the game, or guys they were forced to pick up because of injury issues that your team isn’t facing.

Short answer: only before I start my franchise would I care about this at all.

Usually I don’t unless I feel like it’s a major trade that could make things interesting.

Madden trade logic would stop you from doing most real life trades anyway lol.

Madden's franchise environment is different than real life (and this is true of all sports games). You have different cap dynamics, your gameday roster size is different, ratings are the only thing that matters (whereas real life has other factors to consider), and every team will have different roster compositions due to a series of different personnel moves/injuries/trades.

To me, it is highly illogical to mimic "real world" moves in an environment that does not mimic the "real world". Frankly, those moves could very well be viewed as unrealistic when taken from the context of YOUR universe.

I'm with you - I used to try and ground my Madden franchises in realism, going to so far as to take 32 team control in past franchises to unwind things that felt unrealistic.

But the pressure is off with how crazy the NFL is now. The Cards drafted Rosen Top 10, and then traded him a year later after taking another QB. The Texas traded their talent for peanuts. Brady to TB. Rivers to Indy. Sanders to SF and Sanu to NE mid-season, and neither on the team the following year.

Frankly, you have freedom now - really no trade is too crazy for today's NFL, so long as the consideration isn't too one-sided (so that's really the only place you need to show restraint), so go ham.

I try to start as real as possible at the beginning of the season then what ever happens happens I dont make crazy trades
