I will clarify what exactly I mean. During the regular season you are prompted you renegotiate contracts for players with <1 year remaining. During these negotiations I see my cap space is 38M. It od course goes up and down slightly as I change salary and bonus before submitting offer. That all makes sense.



Now, if I go into the list of free agents and click on one to sign him, my available cap space is shown as -1M. This guy is not demanding 39M a year, so there is absolutely now way -1M can be correct. It should be showing my 38M minus whatever the FA is asking for money.

When you're renegotiating, you're creating a future contract, so the cap you're seeing is for next season. When you're going to sign a free agent you're seeing the cap space you have in the current year.
