Offense inside the 5-yard line

Looking for some tips here. Every time I get inside the 5 I can’t score TDs. The computer loads the box and I can’t run between the tackles - it’s a loss every single time. If I try to run wide, the CPU ends blow by my OTs and I’m dead. If I’m under center and try to throw I’m sacked by those CPU ends or by blitzes/or sheer number of bodies up front before I can drop back three steps.

The ONLY chances I feel like I have to score:

QB has to take off immediately and run it in

Throwing out of the shotgun formation (and I better turn it loose QUICK).

Sometimes, if I can get my offense into a 3-wide set, the defense will not load the box and I have a CHANCE to run one in.

I’m kicking 3-4 FGs a game. Every game. Any it’s getting old. Especially since I can’t complete any bombs (my receivers never get behind the defense), I’m always nickle-and-dining my way down the field.

Re: Offense inside the 5-yard line

I've had the most success at the goal line with RPOs this year. Bubble screen/quick slant rpo alerts.

Re: Offense inside the 5-yard line

In goal line formation, I usually go "heavy" with an extra OL

Otherwise, spread them out. Not always 5 wide, but something with two WR on one side of the formation at least.

I usually go shotgun and spread them out more.

Yea it’s tough to throw from there . What I do is what’s been said already. Spread formation, run up the middle or short curls or slants.

I hate to say it but this is a clear example of EA predicting your plays.

If you call a run play; they will stack the box... call a pass play and they won't. So I've resorted to calling a run play but then checking into a quick slant.

Re: Offense inside the 5-yard line

Without doing what was described above (calling plays and changing them), I can run the ball in. I’m not trying to say it’s your fault, but are you maybe not timing the burst right? Or is your OL sub par, or maybe your RB doesn’t have good acceleration?

The runs I use are usually stretch, power or tosses to the outside, QB power runs, and when it’s at the one or two, QB sneaks or shotgun inside zones. I usually have great tackles, so that helps, and on QB runs I’ll put a TE in the slot and a FB in at RB to help block.

Works pretty well for me. But I will also run either shotgun and whip routes or slants, or boot type passes out of a two tight end set (usually from about the 6), with a TE leaking across the formation behind the line. The latter requires a quick throw away if I’m about to be sacked.

Not that I’m so great. My problem is that I don’t run enough and throw way too many stupid red zone interceptions due to being way too aggressive. It’s hard for me to resist trying to throw a guy open and win a one on one. When I’m patient, I do well with throws to the RB in the flat in goal line.
