Re: Biggest Draft Bust Of All-Time @ QB Leaf or Russell

If Leaf had been taken by the Colts, I’d pick him. But Russell was number one overall with a truly monster contract, so that’s why I pick him.

But given that the 49ers picked Solomon Thomas over Mahomes and Watson, and that the Bears picked Trubisky over both, surely those two have to be up there.

The biggest draft bust of all time is Bo Jackson for the Bucs. They took him first overall and he told them GFY and went off to play baseball. The 86 draft wasn't exactly brimming with talent, but to get not even one snap out of the top pick and become a league laughing stock?

I believe it's Leaf and I don't even think it's close. Leaf was a first team All-American and a Heisman finalist. At that time NFL scouts and execs were split 50/50 if Leaf or Manning would go first. He could have been selected ahead of one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. That's how little the talent difference was between the two. J-Russ on the other hand had zero college accolades. He was 1st team all-SEC and that's it. He had an amazing nationally televised Sugar Bowl game against a terrible Notre Dame secondary and a certain aging senile owner in Oakland fell in love with him. I don't even consider him a bust because he never should have been selected in the first round at all let alone the first overall pick. The talent and credentials were never there to be a considered a bust. With Leaf however the statistics, skillset, accolades were all there and I don't believe anybody without a crystal ball ever saw that coming. To me that equals biggest bust ever.

Bo had a career ending injury so you can't say he was a bust

These players fall more into the bust category

Andre Ware
Curtis Ennis
Blair Thomas
Tony Mandarich
Lawrence Phillips
Charles Rogers
Andre Wadsworth

Bo had a career endeling injury for the Raiders - but he was originally drafted by the Bucs, never signed with them, and they forfeited his rights.

I remember a scouting report saying Leaf was day one NFL ready and Manning was a project lmao.

This doesn’t have anything to do with Madden.
