It's still funny that fans voted him to be the cover athlete. I think he beat Mike Vick to be the cover athlete that year.

Nah, I don't see it. I think it is just him trying to build hype since it'll likely be 2 players on the cover. I guess they are using the fact that he wasn't an expected Cover Athlete to hype up that this isn't a typical Madden cover

The other thought I have: Brady gets the GOAT term a lot now. Rice is the original GOAT.

Size difference in the goats means it's all but guaranteed to be Brady & Mahomes. Brady & Gronk would also make sense, as would many of the others with classic players that people have mentioned. Interesting timing with this reveal coming the same day that we're supposed to get beta invites.
