    Madden 22 Custom Playbook Question

Hey guys. I’m making a custom playbook, and for coach suggestions to work, I need to rate every play for certain situations like 1st down, 2nd and long, 2nd and medium etc.

My question is are there a certain number of plays you can have for each situation? I want to make sure my entire playbook can be called through coach suggestions, just in the right situation. I know it will be a super tedious process so I want to be sure before I do it. Right now my plan is to rate every single play for every situation. Any tips here would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys

I think the limit of plays per situation is 30, maybe 35. I will try to confirm later.

I do know that last year we had the glitch that if you removed any of the plays in 2 Minute Offense, then your coach suggestions would always screw up for 2 Minute and 4 Minute only showing you one play over and over to choose from, with only being able to audible out of it as your saving grace any. I haven't checked to see if this glitch occurs this year, too, but I wouldn't bet against it. What I ended up doing was just adding to the 2 Minute gameplan whatever plays I did prefer and rating them higher - the original plays there rated lower.

Thanks for the reply. Kinda seems like a nightmare trying to put it all together. I wish that all the plays were prerated and you could just continue to use those. Oh well.

There is a glitch at the moment

I was super excited to use coach suggestions/ ratings but quickly it started to just show the same play over multiple pages

        Really frustrating and disappointing

Is your glitch online or offline? I made a playbook last Friday for offline and sticking with what I said above, keeping my playbook per how I made them for last year, it worked just fine in offline franchise (one team owner mode - Colts). I got the score reset bug, of course, but the game itself, every single down played was just fine - glitch free. I did my three preseason games and week one, no problems.

The glitch is online and offline. The same play glitch is also still there for 2 min and 4 min warnings

Messing around like I said, and I have almost 60 plays added to first down per gameplan. I'm going to have to mess around more thoroughly and figure out if this is unlimited or another glitch.

Re: Madden 22 Custom Playbook Question

Custom playbook authoring has a whole bunch of glitches to work around. All the same bugs which existed in Madden NFL 21 (and likely several more prior Madden games) are still present in Madden NFL 22.

I really hope at some point custom playbooks get a significant amount of attention, it would be a huge benefit Madden power users. Any custom playbook support in MUT at all, along with full custom playbook support in Franchise (as opposed to the limited support we have now), would also be wonderful.

What glitches are there in custom playbooks? I haven’t found any, it’s just a tedious process to rate all the plays.

Rather than rate every play, I’ve just been adding 21-30 per situation so stuff actually pops up in coach suggestions. I’ve finished 1st and 2nd down, and it works well, just annoying and time consuming to actually do it.

By my count, there are at least seven major issues:

                      - A user cannot add plays into an offensive or defensive playbook in any meaningfully predictable order once about six plays are added into a single set. The order isn't entirely random, but I spent a long time trying to figure it out and I couldn't.

                      - A user cannot add formations into a defensive playbook in any meaningfully predictable order. Notably, Quarter / Dollar / Prevent randomly get sorted to the top or interleaved among the other formation options.

                      - When creating or editing an offensive playbook, a user cannot modify the Playaction or Conserve Time (Safe) situation ratings for a given play. This makes it impossible to entirely clear an offensive playbook and start authoring one from scratch, because a user must keep the last play in each of those two situations (the game blocks the user from removing the last remaining play in a given situation).

                      - When saving a defensive playbook, the star rating data for several defensive situations does not save properly. This notably affects the "vs Trips", "Nickel", "vs Bunch", "vs Wildcat", and "Empty" situations. Trying to set the play ratings for a defensive playbook is mostly a waste of time because of this bug.

                      - Sometimes, audibles for a given set do not save. This is the easiest bug to work around - save your playbook after setting the audibles for each set.

                      - Plays and sets added into the game through Live Playbooks are not made available to add into custom playbooks.

                      - Plays and sets only available the generic playbooks - ex. West Coast, Pistol, etc. - are not available to add into custom playbooks.

The feature is just a pain in the *** to work with if you want to put together an organized and tidy playbook. It feels like it hasn't been touched since Madden 11 (which introduced GameFlow and the concept of star ratings per-play for different situations).

I really hope there's some work done for custom playbooks soon to address all these issues.

Damn I hadn’t come across those, but I can definitely see how annoying this is. I’ve spent so much time creating custom playbooks on NCAA 14 and now College Football Revamped, and it is significantly easier than Madden 22. Don’t get me wrong, I still really like this madden, best one in awhile despite the bugs which I know will be fixed. Just sucks for the nerds who like to build playbook after playbook like me lol.

Right there with you. I don’t start a franchise until I’ve made my playbooks, and battling these bugs every single year is getting very old lol.

I was debating multiple teams in franchise with different playbooks and now I’m going to just stick to one lol. Too much work.

The issues with the custom playbooks definitely make it a pain to use the feature. What I have never understood is if intended use of the feature is to create your own playbook, why the game doesn't ship with an empty playbook for both offense and defense for you to utilize instead of having to strip out plays in a certain order to get as many plays out as possible. It would seem it would be an easy add for a dev to drop in a blank playbook template.
