I checked this last night while updating all my rosters. Runnels is listed as a Bears player on the NFL.com site but not on the Bear official site. I was using both team sites and NFL.com to confirm. I used official sites as final.

The story from the Buccaneers website. It says "Alstott has not yet determined if he will attempt another return in 2008." It also mentions that he was emotional in 2003 when he first suffered the neck injury - we know now that he didn't retire.

This article also suggests that he has not yet decided.

So while it may come to pass that he retires, he has not said that yet, and I think there is a pretty decent chance he returns next year. This neck injury is not related to his previous one, so should it heal okay, I think he'll be back.

Novak won't make the team.

Don't think Runnels will either, that would make the fourth FB. He might play TE though. 4th string.

Didn't Johnson get cut?

Bucs RB Mike Alstott announced at a press conference that he will be placed on IR, effectively ending his career.
A teary Alstott, who is suffering from a neck injury, stopped short of saying he was going to retire after the season, instead suggesting an announcement on that would come later in the year. The delay probably has to do with the team paying his salary this season, a nice going away present. Alstott was adamant that he will remain involved with the team throughout the season, in a coach-like capacity.

Mike Alstott is expected to announce his retirement on Thursday.
The greatest touchdown vulture of them all had serious neck problems and wasn't guaranteed to make the Bucs or have a big role.

I hope he comes back because I like the guy, but I really doubt it.

I put him into FA but during the pre-season the Falcons signed him to a 4 year deal. LOL
