I saw that this morning on Sportscenter. I wonder if he likes going from a true contender to a team struggling. I can't remember if he had a no-trade clause.

Maybe he just wanted out of New England. It sure will help Oakland on their DL because it looked terrible in the pre-season from the games I seen. Thanks!

Re: richard seymour in silver and black

enjoy a guy getting up there in age that has declined the last few years. Seymour's contract is up at the end of the year and the Pats werent going to pay him so they got rid of him for a 1st round pick, which with the Raiders franchise being what they are could very well be a top 5 pick. Pats have plenty of depth on the DL so they wont miss him too much. Raiders may appear to have gotten the better end of the deal if you look at it on the surface because they got a big name for a 2011 1st round pick but Pats fans know this wasnt a bad move because of the reasons i mentioned above.

We'll enjoy Randy Moss and Derrick Burgess, you guys enjoy an older Seymour who's contract is up at the end of the year and wants big money.

we will franchise him at the end of the year. then we will release him after his second year. thats how we roll. we needed his leader ship for are idiots to soak up. to me it dont matter who got the better deal. all i know is that it helps are younger players and we dont want to have to psay another high draft pick. weve payed alot of them lately. win! lose! or tie! RAAAAAAAAAAIDEEEEEEEEERS! TILL I DIE!

Re: richard seymour in silver and black

On the decline? He matched his best season last year with 8 sacks and led his team.

Hardly.

Although I don't think it was smart for Oakland. A 1st round pick is better used on a guy that has 3-4 years in. Not 10.

Funny that they gave up a 2011 draft pick and not a 2010. You know why right? 2010 is an important draft year for Oakland. They've got their eye on someone already: Taylor Mays

Re: richard seymour in silver and black

Ther reason it is a 2011 draft pick is because that is the year where rookie money will be slotted. Oakland wil most likely have a top 5 or top 10 pick and New England won't have to pay some ridiculous salary becaue the money will be slotted.

Brilliant move by Belichick!!! Anybody who has watched New England knows that Seymour has been declining every year since 2004. New England now has money to give Wilfork who is their best D-Lineman a contract extension. Ty Warren has also been better than Seymour for a few years now and he is signed thru 2013. Seytmour is also a FA after this season and there was no way New England was seigning him - that's what seperates Belichick from other Front Office people - he knew Seymour was on the decline and gone after this year....turns him into a probable top 10 pick.

The Patriots now have a 1st and 3 2nd round picks in 2010 and they now have 2 1st rounders in 2011. That is why New England has been a contender every year since 2001 and will remain in contention for the foreseeable future. Most other teams are either flash in the pans or look at a 4 year window of being a powerhouse. New Enland has 4 picks in the 1st 2 rounds in 2010 and 4 picks in the 1st 2 rounds in 2011.

Sorry, but Seymour has been injury prone and has been on the steady decline. Not saying Seymour isn't a good player - bbut new England has played plenty of games without him and done pretty darn well. (8-0 without Seymour in the last two years and gave up less than 14 pts/game). Remember how bad people thought it was for New England when Milloy left, when Deion Branch got traded?

When 2011 rolls around and the Pats have 2 1st rounders - one of which is in the top 10 at reasonable money, this trade will be another fleece job in favor of New England.

bingo! See Patriots fans get to watch this guy week in and out and have seen that he is declining. To other fans they might not really notice it or just look at numbers and say he's not declining. Fact is he is declining and because of the numbers the guy above said he's going to ask for more money than he's worth and the Pats were not going to give it to him. And they wanted the 2011 pick because like tnkn said thats the year where rookie picks will be slotted money so they wont be overpaying for a high pick, theyll pay for what the guy is worth and deserves based on where he's picked. This is another deal where people are quick to react and say NE is crazy and Oakland got the better of the deal and then 4-5 months later they realize NE just pulled another fast one on the Raiders.

Re: richard seymour in silver and black

Good move by the Raiders (haven't said that in a long time).

Will he play DT or DE for the Raiders?
If its Dt then you have Ellis, Seymour, Kelly and Scott on that D-Line. Actually looks pretty good. If its DE than you have Seymour on one side with Ellis and Scott alternating in and out. Either way its an upgrade for the D-line. The Pats will get a top 10 pick next season so it works out for both teams.
