Ryan Perrilloux CAP

So the next in the AFR series of caps, being jointly worked on by myself and Warren Piecee. Here is a bit of background info on Perrilloux. Coming out of High School he was one of the top prospects, and went to his home state 's university (LSU). He was the 3rd string QB the last year JaMarcus Russell was there, and the two have their similarities. In his next year Perrilloux backed up Matt Flynn and got in a few starts while he was injured. Troubles started early for Ryan Perrilloux, alleged involvement with a counter-fitting ring, which came to nothing, trying to sneak into a casino with is older brother's ID (I would think that there are much worse things that he could have been doing but, not the kind of thing you want your potential starting QB to be caught doing) caused a short suspension for Perrilloux. Later got a 1 game suspension due to a fight he was involved in, at this point he was starting to get a few games under his belt and living up to his reputation, piling on the yards and receptions. Ultimately though it was not enough, Perrilloux was suspended from the LSU Tiger's due to missing classes and team meetings and showing up late. On top of all this a failed drug test is all it took for the Tigers to can Perrilloux. This was in May of 2008. Soon after his failure at LSU, Perrilloux transfered to Jacksonville State in Alabama to play for the Gamecocks for the 2009 season where he put up decent numbers. Going undrafted in 2010, Perrilloux was granted an invite to an early Minnesota Vikings mini-camp (which was very likely arranged by Brett Favre, who has the same agent. Perrilloux was also spotted earlier in the year throwing a football around with Favre) which did not amount to much other than some kind words. Presently Perrilloux has been signed by the Hartford Colonials of the UFL where he hopes to improve and develop his skills, no doubt hoping to play in the NFL one day. Even on the Colonials he is no lock to make the team, competing against Josh McCown (who's interest in playing in the UFL is unknown at this point) Andre Woodson and rookie Bill Stull for a roster spot.

Anyways, enough about Perrilloux, here are his ratings (I will also include his equipment as well)

Ryan Perrilloux 6'3" 225lbs #11

Skin tone: #6
Head: #1

Equipment: Thin White Bands on either Elbow, DBL Wristbands White on the right wrist, White Coach on the left, Towell

To recap, some of my reasons for rating him this way. I wanted his AWR in the 40 is range, you could say it should be lower because of the play time he missed but I choose to set it at 40 because in his last year at Jacksonville Perrilloux only threw 2 INTs. His completion % last year was 58% but his career completion rate is 63.10%. He did throw 12 INTs in 08 though. I also set his throwing accuracies kind of high, but again that was to reflect his low number of INTs, also I am not sure how good his receivers on the gamecocks were, which could explain a lot about his low completion %. Also this THP is very high because it has been reported he has a stronger arm than anyone else in the 2010 draft class. at 67OVR (now 69) Perrilloux is another interesting developmental prospect. Also I set his INJ high and TGH low because, even though Perrilloux does has not sustained any notable injuries, his character leaves a lot to be wanted and could keep him off the field, only way to simulate that is through injuries. If he keeps his act together, he has potential to really break through to the NFL and be a starter somewhere in time. If not, well maybe his old teammate JaMarcus can give him a place to stay with some of his leftover Al Davis bucks.

Edit, I am rethinking his AWR, Perrilloux played almost the same # of games as the other 2010 NCA QBs, therefore I am going to set him around 50 AWR.

Is Jacksonville State a division II school?

Your methodology for INJ and TGH was clever.

If he can get his act together there is a chance he still could be, really tear it up in the UFL then have teams like Buffalo busting down his door trying to get him to sign. With the skills this guy has, he will play in the NFL one day. Franchise QB, who knows but he will play.

Great job! A few questions spring to mind. Is Jacksonville State what was until recently was called a division II school? A 58% completion rate for a division I pro prospect is typically not considered good. You mentioned 63.1 for his career. What type of offense did he play in? Some styles inflate a player’s college completion percentage. Your throwing accuracy rating might be too high. Could your ovr of 69 be too high for a guy who was not even drafted?

Re: Ryan Perrilloux CAP

Yeah those are good questions, if I followed or knew much about NCAA ball I might be able to take a crack an answering them As far as I know your right, Jacksonville State is a devision II school, or its not in any of the major conferences. I am not sure what offences they ran (other than it wasn't a pro style one as far as I know) and what the differences were. Perrilloux's lower completion rate could indicate a few things, 1) I do not know of any good receivers that Perrilloux had at Jacksonville state, LSU wasn't great but you have a number of draftees who went there, like Brandon LaFell. 2) There is a possibility that Perrilloux's completion % was down because he had to learn a new system after being kicked out of LSU 3) I do know he did some running in both places but he ought to have serviceable passing skills. 4) From what I know the big reason why he went undrafted is because of his checkered past and the fact that he was coming out of a relatively obscure school after being forced off the team at LSU. The guy bears similarity to Webb in some respects, the fact that he is raw and unfamiliar with the pro system but I think as far as throwing skill/power goes, is is right up there with the best of the 2010 draft. I think his completion rate while he was at LSU was somewhere around 68%. The biggest thing about Perrilloux is that no one is going to give him a chance, for the reasons listed above, he has lots he needs to learn, could be a big pay off, but he has that history and could turn out to be another Jamarcus (albeit not anywhere near as big of a bust). I hope he does good in the UFL where word has it he is pushing to be 2nd strng and has already beat out Bill Stull for a roster spot on the Colonials. Their first game is going to be against Denny Green's Sacramento Mountain Lions, QB'd by none other than Daunte Culpepper. I wish I could find weather I can get the UFL games on TV here or if there is a way to watch them online. That could be complicated though because I am up here in Canada. Anyways Warren, I think its good that we can comment on each other's CAPs like this. Its this kind of constructive criticism that can help each of us make better CAPs. If you have any changes you would suggest making, or would like to make your own CAP of Perrilloux using your method, I think that would be very interesting.

I wonder if you meant to give R.P. a more accurate arm than Tim Tebow and an overall player rating of just one point lower than Tebow.

nope that is purely coincidence. Perrillloux had some hustle to him but he is not the same kind of runner as Tebow. I think that Perrilloux could be a better QB than Tebow, he certainly has the stronger arm. Also after looking at his stats, he rushed a lot more at Jacksonville State. This, plus his lower pass completion % indicates to me a run/option based offense. I suppose I could trim down the AWR and accuracy a bit. Physically though the guy is gifted and if he had of just finished his NCAA career with LSU (and no off field incidents) he would be held in a different light by the teams at the draft. The scariest thing about Perrilloux though is that, as much potential as he has, if he gets good and does gets to be a starter, think about all the trouble he could wind up in (picture if the JaMarcus Russell incident happened when he was a starter) and think about how weary teams would be of having that happen to them.
