Free Agent Signings in Franchise

does anyone know why you can only sign free agents to a year deal during the franchise?

You must not have tried changing the amount of years you're offering them because I've never had an issue where I had to sign someone for only one year. I offer a minimum of two years to anyone I sign.

If you view the free agents through the Player Management screen you can offer them any kind of deal you want.

It's one year during the season because you're usually signing them to fill a spot from a player either injured or on IR. You can always sign them longer from the player management screen.

Re: Free Agent Signings in Franchise

Well I had no idea. If you do it through player management do they ask for realistic contracts?

This really brings a number of questions to my mind for Tiburon.

1. Why is the other way broken? Why am I able to sign Jake Grove to a 470K one year deal while David Baas who is a lower OVR has his real life $9 million contract? Then I can release Baas, suffer no cap penalty, then re-sign him to a 370K one year deal?

2. Why is the free agent signing menu that is called FREE AGENTS broken? You know, the way most people probably would go to sign free agents? There's no reason for EITHER way to be stupid like that.

I've only noticed this happening in preseason. but i agree, it makes it to easy to just sign a FA with out any worry of cap space.

In real life once a season has started guys will generally sign for much lower (vet minimum) to fill a spot on a team, because they are looking for work. Offseason is where you see contract negotiation take place for the most part. The only times in real life when a negotiation might take place during the regular season is to entice someone out of retirement. You may see it happen for Randy Moss this year, but it is very rare. So it is actually pretty realistic are there workarounds to get better deals... yes.. but there are plenty of workarounds to contracts in real life too especially since deals are not fully guaranteed. The actual contract value is in the guaranteed money but the full value is generally what is reported in the media not the guaranteed amount.
