Simulation Stat Idea

This guy over at MM threaded a terrific post.

It showed the overall player ratings in 2007 compared to the overall player ratings in 2002.

On average, there are twice as many players on the Madden rosters with 90+ OVR ratings as of 2007 than there were in 2002.

For example, 14 quarterbacks have OVRs of 90+ this year. In 2002, only 6 had 90+ OVR ratings.

I wonder what would happen if you went into each player with 90+ OVR and adjusted their attributes so that their OVRs dropped by 3 or so points, then simulated a season.

What do you think the stats would look like? Do you think there would be any change?

This guy sort of espoused that there has been no change in the simulation engine between 2002 and now, yet more players have higher ratings.

Someone should do this. Someone besides me, as I am far too lazy.

Edit: Here's the link to that post (Post # 20): http://www.maddenmania.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=169688

Re: Simulation Stat Idea

In fact, I'm going to try something.

I just created a "Balanced" team. This team generally has all starters rated between 80 and 85 with three guys with 86-89 stats (safety, corner, and wide receiver)
.
I just started a franchise and replaced all 32 NFL teams with this same "balanced" team 32 times.

I'm simming a season with injuries off.

Here are the top six stat ranges for each major player category after 16 season games:

Passer Ratings: 112.0 to 103.6
Passing Yards: 4,300 to 4,138
Passing Touchdowns: 39 to 35
Interceptions Thrown: 15 to 11

Rushing Yards: 1,523 to 1,437
Rushing Touchdowns: 15 to 12
YPC: 5.3 to 4.8
Fumbles: 14 to 9

Tackles: 120 to 110
Sacks: 12 to 9
Interceptions: 8 to 8

Here are the bottom six stat ranges for each major player category after 16 season games:

Passer Ratings: 86.9 to 90.4
Passing Yards: 3,529 to 3,648
Passing Touchdowns: 21 to 25
Interceptions Thrown: 4 to 5

Rushing Yards (of 32 starters): 1,101 to 1,232
Rushing Touchdowns: 5 to 6
YPC: 4.3 to 4.2
Fumbles: 5 to 5

Number of QBS with Rating over 100: 9
Number of QBs with Rating 90-100: 18
Number of QBS with Rating 80-90: 5

Do these numbers look any different from the ones that are returned from the normal simulation engine (I haven't looked)?

Re: Simulation Stat Idea

Quite a bit actually, the bottom numbers look much more authentic than in the standard sim engine.
