Re: Charter04's Madden 13 All-Pro Sim Sliders
I've given up waiting for a patch which may or may not address gameplay issues to try a "serious" CCM. So here... we... GO!!!
Week 1: Colts @ Bears (User)
Note: I use conventional play calling for my offense and gameflow for D.
1st Drive (IND): The Bears D, in typical Tampa-2 style, bend but don't break. Indy knocks home a 45 yarder.
2nd Drive (CHI): Didn't really exist. Devin Hester takes the post FG Kickoff 103 yards for the TD.
3rd Drive (IND): First play from scrimmage Brown, for no apparent reason, jukes to his right after taking a stretch handoff (right). Gave up a couple yards there, but still got 3. Sacked Luck on a CB blitz to set up 3 & 18, Austin Collie gets his bell rung by Peanut (Charles Tillman) and drops a pass which would have converted.
4th Drive (CHI): Matt Forte run for 3 yards. Pass complete to Marshall for 5 yards, bringing up 3rd and 2. Bush fails to convert, punt on 4th & 1.
5th Drive (IND): Indy does a good job on the ground, getting consistent if not stellar yardage. Luck completes a couple of passes. Drive stalls in Bears territory outside the RZ, Indy misses the long field goal wide left.
6th Drive (CHI): A couple decent runs for Forte allows Cutler to go Play Action and hit Brandon Marshall on the outside shoulder, between the CB and S against Cover 2. Sets up 1st and goal from the 5, Cutler sacked next play. Cutler forces the ball into the end zone, drive ends in an INT.
7th Drive (IND): Three straight passes, one complete for 3 yds, one incomplete, 1 complete for 6 yds. Colts punt.
8th Drive (CHI): Forte breaks off a 29 yard run. The SS took a weird angle, probably gave me an extra 10 yards. A couple of fairly average (though successful) plays later, Cutler hits Hester on a curl route. Hester jukes the CB out of his shoes and outruns the S to the end zone for a 29 yard TD. 14-3 Bears.
9th Drive (IND): Indy has a successful first series, then stalls. Two runs for a yard or less, Shea McClellan gets credit for the coverage sack. Indy punts.
10th Drive (CHI): Bears have a solid, well balanced drive going. Freeny lays out Forte, who goes out with an injured shoulder (will return soon). On 3rd and 2 Bush gets drilled by Bathea, fumbles, recovered by IND. Had a good shot at a FG on that drive :/
11th Drive (IND): First play is a "Sack", one yard loss when Luck tied to scramble and didn't quite make it back to the line. Luck completes a pass for 8 yards, goes deep on 3rd and short, play broken up by Chris Conte. Colts punt.
12th Drive (CHI): Cutler takes a coverage sack after going 5 wide on 1st down. I decide to go conservative and try to go into halftime up 11. Forte breaks off a 20 yard run for a 1st down, and I go back into the 2 minute drill. Back to back completions to Marshall and Forte is followed by another coverage sack for Cutler. Sets up 2nd & 18 from the 25. Another sack on 3rd down. Robbie Gould bangs home a 50 yarder to end the half, Bears up 17-3.
13th Drive (CHI): I stall out at midfield, try to force a ball to Brandon Marshall on a curl route. Picked off.
14th Drive (IND): Indy does nothing, a run into the line for 1ish yard and two incomplete passes. Punt.
15th Drive (CHI): I decide to try for a mid-late 1990s Lou Holtz Notre Dame we've-got-a-two-score-lead-and-the-ball ball control ram-it-down-your-throat drive. Things go well until a holding penalty gives me a 1st and 20 at my own 40. ANOTHER sack doesn't help things. Hester makes a couple great moves but gets stopped 6 yds short of the 1st down. Punt.
16th Drive (IND): Indy has figured out that I run a lot of zone and begins to call a screen pass on every third play. It works for a couple series, then luck gets sacked. Punt.
17th Drive (CHI): Indy stops Bush in the backfield for -2 yards. Cutler misses an open receiver for the first time in the game. Alshon Jeffery makes a great catch about two yards past the marker. But wait... yep, holding on me. Alshon Jeffery makes a great catch about 2 yards short of the marker and can't break a tackle to get the first. Result: 4th and IN. I don't feel like going for it from my own 35. Punt.
18th Drive (IND): Luck gets drilled by Peppers on the last play of the 3rd Q. Can't convert on 3rd and 20... punt.
19th Drive (CHI): Still in ball control mode, which means Bush is getting a lot of carries. A stat flashes up: I'm 0/6 on thrid down for the day. Good thing it's 3rd and 1 and I've got Mr. Automatic in short yardage. Bush breaks off an 8 yard run and ANOTHER damn holding call. 3rd and 11... Cutler finds Forte and coverts. I continue to pound the rock until Michael Bush breaks off a 38 yd TD run. Off of an A-gap iso play. That shouldn't really happen. Reggie Bush can do that. Michael Bush... only if he's back at Louisville Male High School. And not playing Trinity. Or Saint X. Chicago leads 24-3.
20th Drive (IND): Indy moves the ball well, though in small chunks, all passes. Luck gets called for delay of game, which I LOVE about this slider set. A solid 9 yard game, and luck gets called for delay AGAIN. Peanut makes a great play on the ball to break up a pass on 3rd and 11. Indy goes for it on 4th from their own 45 Luck makes a rookie mistake and completes a pass to his RB for 4 yards with no hope of breaking enough tackles to get the first down. Turnover.
21st Drive (CHI): I nickle and dime my way down to a 3rd and a short two 2 from the Indy 4. Bush fails to convert. 2 Minute warning, after which Gould knocks home the FG. 27-3 Chicago.
22nd Drive (IND): -6 yard completion on a screen pass, incomplete pass (Peanut drops an easy INT), Luck takes a sack. Indy punts from their own end zone.
23rd Drive (CHI): I pull most of my skill position guys. Patrick Witt completes his first NFL pass. Armando Allen gets his first NFL carry. The game ends.

Notes:
I was surprised that Donald Brown (IND) only averaged 1.9 ypc (31 yds on 16 attempts). Indy tried to run a few draw plays for more or less zero yardage once they go behind, and they had this annoying habit of running the same HB toss play out of a two-TE right I-form which never gained more than a yard and usually got stopped for a loss.
Andrew Luck made some rookie mistakes, but didn't play terribly.
Jay Cutler was 18-23 for 78%. Actually, 87% of his passes were complete to SOMEBODY, two of which were wearing blue and white. He only missed an open receiver once, Alshon Jeffery on a 10 yard out route. At least two of his ohter incompletions were lame ducks thrown while getting plastered.
Sorry for the long, long game cap, but I wanted to make the point that this felt like a game of football. There were a few niggles here or there, but for the most part it was enjoyable. Apart from a little bit of screwy CPU decisions while running the ball, and a stupid play call they insisted on going to over and over and over again. Even though I had some success on offense, I felt like I had to work for it. My main complaints would be that my running game was a little too effective, both with Forte and Bush. And Cutler was just way way too accurate. Chicago's D was probably a little more dominant than they should have been against a fairly bad Colts offense. We'll see how differently things go when we travel to Lambeau.
