BritPitbull's Sliders - XBOX 360

Ello,

I've not played Madden for around 5 or 6 years due to the game being a perennial disappointment and certain broken aspects of the game never being fixed. However, I had heard that Madden 25 was a bit better - the CPU will actually run the ball and not cheat so much etc. So I recently decided to try it out and this has led me once again to the forlorn practice of creating realistic sliders (and at least the sliders are far more comprehensive these days).

I've been playing Charter04s sliders for a while but there were a few things I didn't like, the main issue being that due to the slow speed of the players (or less differential between them), runs to the outside, end-arounds, QB scrambles, screens, kick returns, etc were just not factors/realistic and QBs can't go deep due to their low accuracy (in my experience).

So today I developed a slider set predicated on the theme of making individual players play according to their talent and opening up every aspect of the game. Now, this is a work in progress and, although they probably need much tweaking, I think I'm on to something here.

The concept is based on making fast players really fast and making defences react far slower. Conversely, as you will, see pass coverage and tackling are extremely high.

The result is that RBs can go inside or out and gaps will open up for them, they can also break long runs without being chased down by slower players (as they can in real life). It depends on the talent of the back and Oline. I've had Lynch run for over 170 yards on me whereas other backs have struggled to make 3 yards per carry.

However, lineman and linebackers will shed their blocks far more effectively due to the high tackling slider and low blocking slider. The D Line will get a lot of pressure on the QB and holes in the line of scrimmage will shut as soon as the running back enters them. In addition, due to the high pass coverage, you should see a lot more pressure sacks.

Whereas receivers will be able to get space via the initial slower reaction of the D, they will then be stuck to like glue. Essentially, the better a player's attributes are, the better he will play. A good and fast receiver will find more space against a less talented CB but a highly rated CB really will be shut-down now. I've played games today against both the Buccs and Seahawks and Revis and Sherman made passing to the WRs they were marking an extremely dangerous proposition.

Please note: you will see penalties, injuries and fumbles (as you would in the NFL of course).

If anyone would test the sliders I've posted below then I'd be most grateful. Let me know how they feel to you. I'm not a great Madden player and much tweaking will no doubt be necessary but if the general feel is there then I'll have something to work with and improve upon. Thanks for looking

Re: BritPitbull's Sliders - XBOX 360

I'm intrigued to try these out in coach mode given the fact that they are mostly equal based and that you have given the cpu an advantage in the areas that they are weak in such as the running game. In settings past, it didn't matter if I played on equal base settings, I would always have an advantage running the ball even if I was playing with a much less talented running back. I will let you know how my dolphins/saints game goes tonight.

Thanks. From what I can tell, fatigue is having a big effect this year. I seem to do far better in the first half than the second. I may need to lower this. If I do, then the CPU running may need a small boost in return but I will need to be careful as raising run blocking will have an effect in the pass game too.

Summary
This was an interesting game. I took control with a big 1st quarter lead courtesy of an interception by my OLB and by two good punt returns.

What I noticed was, as time went on and my side became fatigued, the CPU improved on both sides of the ball. The first play of the 2nd half was a McFadden fumble and a Washington recovery followed by a 45 yd run by Morris which was actually a pitch to him just as I was about to sack Griffin. I missed a tackle on this by running past Morris and there were maybe three plays in the game where I made a similar mistake, which perhaps favourably skewed the CPU's stats. But I suppose that's like the NFL, you miss a tackle and it results in a big play. Moss was by far the most dangerous receiver on the pitch, as you'd expect in real life and it may show that my guiding principle of making good players stand out is working as desired.

After the fumble, I threw an interception that I thought was a bit cheaty as I threw into acres of space. I see now that my QB must have been injured for a couple of plays as my backup QB threw it, so that's ok. In the fourth I went on a monster drive which took a lot of time off the clock but had to punt in the end. The CPU went marching up the field in the final 2 minutes needing just a FG to win, Griffin scrambled twice for big gains and they got into the 25. I was thinking, "Madden comeback cheating in full effect" but then Griffin threw a pick and I was able to kneel out the game.

Observations:
Tight coverage meant neither side could just hurl the ball down the field.
CPU pass and run got better as time went on
CPU had a 98yd KR pulled back for holding
Both sides could effectively use screens, QB scrambles, end-arounds

Summary
Well that was a proper beating. I just couldn't stop Manning. With the D's reactions this low and Manning being so accurate, he was simply completing everything. He is the best of the best so his stats are not so ridiculous and they were made worse by the fact that it took me a long time to get my offence going and so I kept giving the Broncos the field and in a good position.

Observations
I don't think I will change the sliders quite yet. If one looks at the Broncos stats for this season they have scored 51 or more points on three occasions and Manning has passed for over 400 yards 4 times and had a rating over 135 on five occasions. So these stats aren't unrealistic at all. Maybe I should just learn to get better at the game. I did realise after a while that with these sliders, controlling a D lineman and using the R stick is very effective at pressuring the QB and maybe if I played the game again I'd fair better. Also, the Broncos play mainly with 3 WRs and my nickel package did not include Patrick Willis, so I played most of the game without my best player.

Kaepernick seemed surprisingly slow to scamble with.

The only changes I'll be making for the next game is to reduce fatigue down to 40.
