Help! Question regarding salaries and trading players

Could someone explain to me what is affected when I trade a player? How does it affect my cap room for the current year and the next year? Last year I thought I was saving money and I ended up being in a world of cap problems.

Thanks

When you trade or release someone, you still take the hit on their signing bonus. I believe it is listed under cap penalties. You have to plan these things out and only trade/release players who have a small signing bonus or a short term contract.

It seems to me that you take a much smaller hit when you release someone in the last year of their contract (years left = 1).

Re: Help! Question regarding salaries and trading players

Alright, here we go.
1. When you trade or release a player, you take their signing bonus as a hit for the next season.
2. If you release a player that is a year or two into their contract, you will take a "pro-rated" hit or whatever they have left for their signing bonus. You can find this by accessing the player card, finding how many years remain and then looking at their contract to see how much of the signing bonus they have left during those years. This hit will also affect you during the next season.
3. All cap hits come off the books after one season. They change year to year based on your trades & releases.

Thanks, that is just what I needed. Also, is there a screen or option where you can see how much of a hit you are taking for next season?

Thanks again,
Manny

Yes. When you go to release a player, it will tell you how much of a hit and when you are trading, it is just below the players that are involved in the trade.
