But doesn't that make EA look even WORSE? If ESPN hadn't been around, it's more than likely none of us would have an idea of how important presentation is in a game. I can remember one guy over at Maddenmania (can't remember his name) saying for YEARS that presentation should be an integral part of the game, yet it wasn't until VC brought it to the forefront the past few years that EA/Tiburon even made a half-*** attempt at bringing it to Madden. The fact they still have that atrocious Matrix-like three in one replay, the same "players gettin' hyped!" opening, etc. is proof of that. It wasn't until this past year they made an attempt to make the sidelines look halfway decent.

I said this on another board and will say it here - Madden will never suck, in part because those that hold it in such high esteem have low expectations of it. All Tiburon has to do is change the opening and people will be excited for it. One thing you must give EA props on - they've done a masterful job at cultivating a wonderfully large user base with wonderfully low expectations. With that and snatching the NFL license, they've made their game failure-proof. How telling is it that people are willing to accept the same suction block-based engine until 2007?

wow.... why do people feel the need to apologize or state their "faith" in a company. ive learned they dont give a crap about us. i play what I want and dont find a need to answer to anyone.

let the guys who feel that videogames are their lifestyle and livelyhood run their mouths....and just let it be.

Being a fan or "fanboy" of something isn't bad in and of itself, at least I don't think it is. We all have our favorite sports teams we follow and pull for to win - if there wasn't that emotional involvement, sports wouldn't be what it is today. It's whenever fandom distorts a person's sense of reality or sensibility that causes problems.

Well, from a gamer's perspective, I'm just happy that we have been exposed to the ESPN series. It shows us what is capable of being done, and EA has no real excuse to rest on it's laurels.

But I don't see how that makes EA look "worse." Again, I'm a gamer but I understand how big business' work. It's not all about emotion and passion; It's about profit. And EA has been working this way for years. I see how some are upset at the whole situation, but the more you analyze everything, the easier to see this was years in the making, and not a one shot move just to kill ESPN.

To believe that EA just recently proposed something last summer would show just how uninformed and clueless you are on the whole situation. (Not saying you, spank, but speaking in general.)

So then is it okay that they proposed it if they didn't just propose it recently? Does bringing it up earlier change the fact that they were the ones who brought it up?

We're deviating from the original point here: it's not like the NFL just brought this up out of nowhere, obviously it has been pushed by EA in the past. And if it had been any significant length of time since EA brought up the subject, why would someone from EA even bother to mention it in a quote?
